Thumbs up MA70 Supra Turbo

At the Torrance Starbucks there is always a gathering of supras late at nite especially considering its open 24hours. Anways, i was meeting up with some friends and we decided to part ways at about 1am cuz it was buttass cold.

I get on to the main street...3 lanes wide open and the posted speed limit is 45mph. I get to the signal which was red. Next to me was a light blue Supra Turbo MA70 (1986.5-1992) with exhaust, lowered, no Turbo emblem but instead a TRD emblem...stock wheels, no aero. I had no intention of racing but when the light turned green the supra accelerated out enough that i thought hell why not (no traffic and nice open straight road)...i was also fairly confident since i saw no turbo badging (even if it was, didn't look like it had anything more than the exhaust for a 3500lb car with 230hp/245lb-ft torque). I came even and then it was on...it was MUCH closer than i thought but i pulled about a half a car length at around 70mph and shut down as i knew the gap would only widen and i didn't want to get tagged.

The next light was red and we came to a stop...once it turned green it was time to do it right and as i slammed through the gears i kept pulling away and by the time 3rd gear came around i was a car length ahead and pulling so i shut down. I realized that the supra was much quicker than i had anticipated. Gave the guy the peace sign and we both knew it was over. At another light, i rolled down the window and asked him what he was running...the guy was cool and he said he was running stock turbo which kind of suprised me...but when the light turned green and he went on his way i heard an aftermarket blowoff valve...considering the relative closeness i can only assume that the stock turbo was not running stock boost.

Either way, it was a closer race than i thought it would be but i bagged my first kill in the Z against what turned out to be a deceptively worthy opponent.

Normally i don't street drag race...more interested in developing driving skills but it was a gauge to see how fast/slow my Z is and i drove away impressed with my car for what it is out of the box.
