Thumbs up 2003 Bonneville SSEi vs. The Z

This is a true story and it happened last weekend.

It was Saturday 5/3 around 11 am here in Jacksonville, FL.

I was heading west on a road called Merrill Rd (5 lanes) which has a max speed of 40 posted. My wife and I were sitting at the stop light in the left lane and a 2003 Bonneville SSEi pulled up next to me in the right hand lane. The man driving looked in his late 60's early 70's and was wearing a suit and smoking a cigar. He motioned to my wife to lower our window and then he commented on how nice the car was. We replied nicely and thought we were on our way.... Well - Nope - The old man wanted to RACE!!!! When the light turned green, his wheels started smoking and he took off like a bat out of hell. Of course I floored the AT Z and we went head to head for about the first 300 feet - by then I was already pushing close to 60 and he was falling back fast. I kept my foot on the gas till I reached about 82 and backed off. The Bonneville caught back up with me - the older gentleman gave me the thumbs up and my wife and I pulled into Mc D's to enjoy a nice lunch.

I had to share this. I hope I'm that cool when I'm in my 70's...... Good job old man!!!!

I'll raise the BS flag on this one.

It's impossible to have a nice lunch eating at McDonald's.

The SSEi version is. It's the same (well, some slight differences in apps between the "Series II" and newer "Series III") supercharged 3.8L OHV V8 that GM uses in the Grand Prix GTP, Regal GS, and the upcoming Impala SS. Rated at 240-260hp. Between the typical OHV low end and Eaton roots-style blower, it makes for an engine with impressive power down low that (IMHO) dies up top.

I disagree. Those are big cars - my coworker has one and it's significantly larger than a Grand Prix or your typical midsize sedan. Mid 15's isn't bad for a large heavy sedan. If you want something a lot faster in that size you're going to have shell out some serious cash.

Spelled "weak" and no it is not weak. It is heavier than a 300M with 10 less HP yet it still easily outruns the 300M. For its size and weight it is very quick....

The low to midrange on the SC 3800 is amazing...an owner from LS1.com ran a 14.1 in his 04 GTP Grand Prix....so i'd watch out b/c thats "Z" territory

It was Jacksonville University's spring graduation and all the good restaurants were starting to fill up - so Mc D's was the best option. This was someone's grandfather being that he came from the same parking lot I as parked in and followed me up to the light.

The SSEi was a pretty nice car. Big boat though and he had 2 other people in the car. Like I said, I hope I'm that cool when I reach that age.
