I am surprised that they are saying that they can't get a 350 to race, I am always looking to play.

also what one guy says about old guys or girls driving Zs is pretty funny, I have ONLY seen 1 girl driving a Z and everybody I see LOOKS under 40-45, where are these guys?

btw, do they think a E36 should kill a Z?????

Yeah I haven't seen any chicks in Z's either..

But no, they don't think the E36 would kill the Z... but they DO think that the E36 would be a driver's race.

Guess I'll need to find a hard-top to see if they're right.

Y'know, I read the bimmer thread from head to toe, and I find it hard to believe that they can't find Z's to race. It seems like every lunatic on this site has an addiction for speed. As for the age groups, well here in Miami you can see any kind of driver on a Z ( not that you see many of them ) but i've seen a couple of girls and guys around my age (I'm 26). Even saw a chick on a G35 that tried to smoke me. As far as racing goes, I would take a worthy opponent if the conditions are right (almost got killed last week beating a Boxster when an idiot cut in my lane from the other side of the street). And yeah, you see a lot of older guys driving exotics, they have the money (saw like a 50 to 60 geezer driving a Murcielago on South Beach a month ago).

E36 would be a close fight.

E46 wouldn't even be close.

I'm sure they'll come out with better gearing out back for the 'z' soon enuf...

Good kill man, but why do people are use the same excuse. It must have been an auto or that guy can't drive. But what people don't wanna do it put all these type of racing in to diffrent type of factor beside the same old lame excuse. But yeah the e36 isn't that great of a car, well at it time it was. they can't even keep you with my lightly modded RSX. I have not only smoke e36 in my Z but my the RSX as well. LOL just kidding, they are pretty fast but the Z and my RSX is just a little faster. Here a video of my little bro eat one up alive at the track! But bimmer people don't like to hear or see that so like alway they will give reason why that M3 lost! So i'm going to make up all the excuse for them, that guy must not know how to drive, oh that must have been an auto, that guy had a bad launch, he must have let off the foot off the gas and the best one your car is modded if it was stock vs stock the m3 would kill that type S. Ok that's kinda hard, i'm going to say one last thing, e36 are fast but it not the fastest thing out on the street, same goes with RSX, 350z, s2k and etc...
There will be faster car out there. Just enjoy the car!

But that's just a e36 but for a e46 that is a way diffrent story. It's going to be hard to beat this one. That thing is a beast. Another example of a car that is faster then my RSX and Z. Love the M but the Z is for me!

RSX vs WS6 i think?

LoL.. Those bimmer guys are too funny.. Who are they trying to kid, the car is slow.. Its a great looking car and all, but Ive had a few runins with E36 Ms in my tt, and with a chip they aren't even a problem..

To compare my car with a Z.. Ive ran 2, and both times the outcome was the same.. dead even.. I don't know if the autos are slower but its possible both were auto or still breaking in the car.. So far the best I was able to turn in at the track was a 14.1 at 97.6 but I compared to the other cars out there (sti, evo, S4, M3) a 14 flat can't cut it..

Ive been checking out this forum for the past few weeks, and the Z is really starting to grow on me.. .. I still can't believe how many mods are already available for the Z.. Its just amazing... Im definitely interested in seeing what the greddy turbo kit puts out, because there isn't much available for the TT, and I can't stand getting smacked around by these E46 M3s..

I hear ya.. I haven't seen to many in my neck of the woods, and the few that I have are usually on the otherside of the road..

what have you done to your TT, I know they are pretty fast when modded (my wife has a modded 1.8t Jetta and does pretty). How much does a modded 225hp TT put out??

what are your toughts on the new 3.2 TT??

When I ran the 14.11 @ 97.6 I did it on either 94 octane, and the car weighed 3350 with driver.. The mods I had on the car were a GIAC X-chip (which ups boost, advances timing, adds fuel.. etc), a forge 007P Diverter valve, 17 205 50 winter snow tires (not such a great mod when you need traction in the dry), and coilovers.. With just an ABT chip, a friend of mine ran a 13.999 @ 98.6 with a 2.06 60' so there are faster chips.. The company that sells the ABT chip says ~255hp at 5900 rpm and ~260 ft-lbs from 3200-4000 rpm but I have a feeling those numbers are a little conservative..

As for the 3.2L TT, Audis numbers are far from impressive but the DSG tranny sounds real phat ( check out this article.. pretty cool ) but I don't think you can bolt a supercharger on it because of the tranny.. I think the biggest question, is how much power could the DSG tranny take, and how would one go about upgrading the clutch for the DSG.. After reading that article I want to go out and get one, but it will probably be slower then my 225 with the chip, so theres no point..

Mr.RSX, if that was a WS-6, it was the poorest showing ive ever seen out of one. A 14.1 @ 100 mph will get you a damn nice view of tail lights going up aginst an LS1. But hey, its not to say it wasnt one and the guy did some massive stupid pro-street burn out for the first 500 ft.

But all these comments bashing the E36 M cars, you guys are insane. Thats one of the nicest balanced, most fun to drive cars around. And yes, your 350s compare rather well with them. But all this talk of kicking the **** out of them, its just that,....talk. Stock for stock its a drivers race. Both of them low 14s at 100 mph, give or take. Anywho, just thought i would put in my .02 on the subject.

Don't get me wrong the E36, M3 is a nice car.. I love the exterior design, and the interior.. When I was looking at the TT, I was also considering getting an E36 M3, but when I realized a TT would be fast with just a chip I saw no point.. I love the car, but I didn't like the fact that the only way to get serious power out of one was with serious money (supercharger, turbo..etc).. At least I can go with a chip, and Ive got an additional 45hp for $500.. Truth is, I consider my car pretty damm slow.. If I keep it and go with a turbo upgrade, I will still consider it slow unless Im running high 11s.. =)

I have been reading about the 3.2, some really like it, Danny sullivans opinion in autoweek seemed a little more revealing in the weaknesses in the DSG, he didn't like the way it did some things and mentions that some of those things shouldn't happen in a true sports car, that is why a manual is hte best choice, but overall he liked it (but I did read between the lines there, which is interesting since Danny has owned a lot of Audis and seems to k favor them).

I also agree with your point, I don;t know why it seems to be such a mystery, BUT it is So easy to drop $500 into a chip and get sooo much extra power in the 1.8t (I didn't know the ABT was better than the GIAC, are you sure about that??). My wife has the GIAC, EVO DV (similar to forged), k&n drop in, etc.....BUT the FWD really limits its potential.

I would bet yours would beat a 3.2, it would be an interesting race, I love the look though, some guys put some cool wheels on that car and really make them look nice!!

For the 225 TT, the ABT chip is definitely faster then the x-chip.. Someone else on the TT forum has ran his x-chipped 225 at 14.086 @ 96.95 with a 1.866 60' so Im pretty confident in saying thats the best the chip can do unless of course I could nail a better 60' time.. My friend with his ABT TT destroyed that.. His 60' time with a 13.999 @ 98.6 was 2.06.. So yeah.. its definitely faster..

GIAC is revising the current 225 TT chip, so its possible that it will be faster... (crossing fingers).. I know that the ABT chip advances timing a little further and also has boost up a little higher then the X-chip.. Im kinda disapointed because giacs chips are usually the fastest..

Supercharging the 3.2 TT will be a bigger problem that with the Z. According to european car magazine the new 3.2 V6 has a 11.3 compression ratio, so forced induction on this baby seems like a distant option.

Sure will, its a faster car overall. The difference is about 0.5 to 0.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile drag.

E46 M3: 13.3-13.6 (could be wrong)
350Z: 13.8-14.1

Driver factor really makes a difference here as always.

I don't mean to hijack the thread or anything but I'm curious as to what the newer M3s trap at (333HP version). I had a run in last night where he tried a flyby ( ) and i stopped his pull and proceeded to walk away from him...105-107 maybe?

Hi all,

I am new here and read some M3/350Z races on this forum with great interest (I come from roadfly)... Indeed, I had the chance to "race" an 350Z today.

Me: I have a 2003 Carbon Black E46 M3 (1700 miles, so still under slight break-in), SMGII.

I was on the ramp to I85 (Sf bay area) with my fiancee, we I saw that sliver 350Z in the rear mirror, about 200 feet begind. Ok I said... nice car!

So I work my way to the HOV lane on the I85, when I see on my right the 350Z zipping thru traffic, and obviously looking for something. He goes in front of me on the HOV lane, and since he was already accelerating, he was probably going 70, whereas I was going 60....... at that time he was already 4 cars lenght in front of me.

The chase was on. To summarize (the race anly lasted 10-15 sec, enough for my fiancee to almost faint !!!), I slowly pulled on him until I stabilized behind him at 2 cars length (did not want to tailgate him to close) for the last 5 sec of the race, and we reached 120 mph, when he made a quite dangerous move to take the next exit..... the guy did not even look at me

So, if you keep in mind that I was in S4 mode (SMG II), and that I was shifting at 6.5k max (still breaking-in sort of), and that we were two people in the car (especially my gf screaming !!!) and he was alone, I WOULD SAY THAT AN M3 is FASTER.

NOW, do not get me wrong. I do respect the 350Z, and it's a real steal for its price. I even like the style a lot... I also found it to be quite fast I must say.

Only, in S6 mode, alone and up to 8k I really think an M3 should win most of the time.... nevertheless, I was impressed by that cute silver Nissan that I encountered today.

Cheers.

BEZMan.
