Default Just got back from the Track details inside...

Well my first time at the track this year with the Z.
The details.

Sat in Tech Line for over an hour and a half, then sat in the staging lanes for about 30 minutes and then finally got my first run in.

Temperatue was 59 degrees, Tires were at stock PSI which was around 35. And my car was pretty warm.

The track is 2700' ABOVE SEA LEVEL!!!!

Run 1:

R/T ... .819
60' ... 2.256
330 ... 6.207
1/8 ... 9.431
MPH .. 77.13
1000 . 12.170
1/4 ... 14.474
MPH .. 98.31

Run 2 i sat for awhile and lowered my rear tire psi to 24 and ran a 14.611 @ 97 with a 2.395 sixty time so i wasn't too happy
then they closed the track.

I was at the track for 5 hours for 2 runs !!!!!
Hopefully next time i can drop the 60' to 2.0 and get a 14.1....
14.4 is already a 13.9 @ sea level. and it had more.

No helpful insight?

There was a WRX out there bone stock just like me running 14.1.... now i know our cars a just a hair quicker in the 1/4 and i know i'm a better driver. I just didn't get enough practice, and elevation doesn't effect him as much as me but still i know the car has a 14.1 in it with a better 60'
Right???

And also there was a new EVO that ran 13.3 bone stock.

the 2700ft MSL really kills N/A cars. I'm sure you can pull off a 14.1 though with a better short time. On the stock tires I lowered the pressure to 25 in the rear and launched with a 3500rpm quick slip...2.0s no problem...

Ahh yes i was hoping you would reply... You were always good with your Maxima every since i joined max.org 4 yrs ago.

I lowered the PSI to 24 and tryed to launch at about 2500 just dumping the clutch and punching it like i do in my maxima but i just spun. I came off the line quick but evidentally not that quick.

I tried launching on the road lastnight after i left the track. I was leaving the RPM's at about 1500 then slipping the clutch and applying gas at the same time and it seemed to hook up really good and take off. But don't know until i get back out to the track.

Try a higher rpm launch with more slip than dump...it takes a lot of practice, and you have to be careful not to burn the clutch, but once you get it down you can get out of the hole much quicker than a 1500-2500 drop because you never get below about 3 grand on the tach and you don't bog.

I kinda miss my max....but I definitely don't miss FWD.

You sold the Max?? i didn't know you sold it. that sucks
I kept mine.
But she's torn apart right now, been about 3 months with the TB, Plenum, and Manifold at the machine shop getting ported and polished and opened up. Got my Y-pipe back from Warpspeed with a new flex. So as soon as i get it up and running again i wanna hit a 14.7 with it, last year i got a 15.0 but i'm not sure if my flex was bad or not then.

But back to the launch, do you hold the gas pedal while you slip or do you go WOT? i have a really bad habit of once i go to let off the clutch i go WOT. It's hard to stop myself, everytime i try a high RPM launch i just hop everywhere or i burn the tires off. Like lastnight i TRIED a high RPM launch and tried to slip it alittle but i got the 2.3 60' time. guess more practice

Yea...the max is gone...good luck with yours...I hit 14.4@97 N/A and I was happy with that....good luck with the 14s.

I slowly go WOT while I slip...I don't just jam on the gas...that's why it takes a lot of practice...you have to restrain yourself from just going WOT right away..."feel" for traction...

Yeah i went out alittle bit ago and practiced on the road. I got a nice good one where i slipped it a hair while slowly going WOT, got the tires to break loose for about maybe a split second and then it grabbed and took off, RPM's never dropped below 3 grand. I'll get it. Everyone tells me i'm a really good driver so i think i'll get it pretty quick.
This sucks i hate being at this elevation i wanna break records with my Maxima and my Z but i'm not at the correct altitude for it. I know i can break Bryan H's record, well maybe not break it but come damn close with my maxima. He ran 14.3 all motor and i can a 15.0 but with our correction factor that was basically like a 14.5, and that was just CAI, and Y-pipe pretty much.
I dunno maybe someday i'll take them both to a Sea Level track.

Oh and definetly next time i race i'll race with less gas. I ran my Z lastnight with just under 3/4 tank of gas...... haha

I see how you guys launch but what about the other gears?

Do you WOT with 2nd and 3rd or slip there as well?

My buddy tells me that I pop the clutch too much

Can u explain the correct way?

Thanks

Nice times..don't worry about them too much.. the ET will come with experience.. I got 14.1 on my first pass ever then two 14.2 passes without a cool down. First time at the track and I had only owned the car a few weeks. I managed 2.1~2.2 60fts and had a blast that day. Im confident if I had gone back I could have broken into the 13s but I never got the chance, (Trans boiled a week after the track runs) I just had those runs as a baseline I guess.

Just get to the track a few more times and im sure you will see those ETs dropping for you. Launching on the street and at the track are completely different..so its hard to go away from the way you normally launch vs how you need to launch at the track.

As far as those Evos go... look at the low MPH Just let them take off from a dead stop.. coast off the line..they will realize they are asses...slow up for you..then take them from a roll. They won't stand a chance. hehe.. Only way I know to defeat AWD cars Make them beg for the beating.
