Default Raced with a Dinan M coupe...

I was returning from my girlfriend’s house at about 1:00am when I see some tail lights I find familiar. As I get closer I recognize the wide rims/body of a red M Coupe, but I also see some huge tail pipes! As I am passing him we enter a very closed turn to enter a tunnel witch is fairly long. As we are exiting the curve I get ready to go for it, ever since I know these suckers are fast, and this puppy seems to be modified I wasn’t going to let him beat me too easily, I’ll fight till the end! … I’m in front of him in second gear at about 2200 rpm's when I see his xenon head lights go up! Oh ****! He went for it! So I hit it too, only to notice that just when his front bumper is at my rear bumper I start to pull on him, FAST! I hit third and I’m pulling him by about 2.5 cars! I hit fourth and as we approach the exit of the tunnel that is shaped like an “S” but wide, I let off a bit thinking that he is not racing anymore, only to find out that he is still going for it! So I step on the gas again (all this in a matter of seconds) and I start pulling on him again. I figure this guy thinks that maybe on the curves he can catch me…wrong! So I let go at fifth and just wait for him. I figure that maybe he didn’t had a good start or missed a shift… I’m cruising at about 35mph in second waiting for him (remember its 1:00am almost NO traffic) as he goes by I try to catch up in speed, when I can tell that he is going for it again, only this time he has a really good start, and we have lots of road ahead. I shift to third and start gaining on him fast, as I’m shifting to fourth, I’m two car lengths ahead of him, fifth is the gear now and I’m at about 6 or 7 car lengths ahead, either he lifted off, or I managed to pull that distance… I don’t know. So I figure, I have to talk to this dude, I need to know what year is his car and what does his car has. So I make signals to him and as he is beside me I ask “what year is it?” he goes “2000” and I go “how many horses does it have?” (What I wanted to know was if it was the 300+hp Coupe that is supposed to be fast) and he goes “this one has almost 400hp” I go “WHAT?” I figure ok! he definitely had Dinan equipment but sorry dude there is no way that car could had 400hp! Let me tell you, I have raced 2003 M3s and managed to beat them, but this Coupe wasn’t even a challenge! I don’t know, maybe is the heat we have down here or the humidity that those German cars doesn’t seem to have all those horses that the tuners sell them in boxes.

So, this was a M3....not an M5, correct.

Either way, if he had 400 HP he can't drive to save his life.....

Are you sure it was a M class because a M anything, let alone a Dinan, with 400hp should have had you looking at his taillights even with bad driving.

Granted anything can happen on the road. The M-Coupe stock can turn low 13s. The engine is essentially the same (S54) as in the '01+ M3s. What are your mods? No offense but I highly doubt you've beaten a handful of low 13 second cars that are pretty strong from a roll...but then again anything can happen on the street

Did you read the post? An M Coupe is different than an M3 coupe, the same way an M Roadster is different than an M3 convertible. Just the heads ups.

It kind of sounds like the coupe driver doesn't know much about his car

sounds like you encountered the Z3 coupe. M coupe would have done much better, and that's with either motor variation that the M coupe came with. S54 would have *at least* been a dead heat with you.

That or this story is totally bogus.

I may be wrong, but I don't think there is a Z3 coupe. I know the M coupe is a badass car though. I'll have to concur, even with a bad driver, M coupe should win. Mabye he was a really bad driver and just left Home Depot with a load of ceramic tile. It could happen.

there is a m coupe which is the hatch back like car, and then there is a M roadster which has the same body as the Z3, both cars are pretty quick. But if it's not an M it's not going to be as quick.

There most certainly was a Z3 coupe as well as the M Coupe. I have only seen one on the road, and most people don't know about it. Why buy the clown shoe if it doesn't have the performance...I guess.

Yes it was in the "minillas" tunnel. The M Coupe was red with Dinan exhaust. Where are you from? If you'r from the metro area maybe you have seen me in my 350Z, its DB with Volk GTC's 19"

I was reluctant to post this kill because of the people reaction. This is not the first time this happens. Maybe if I could arrange a race with either an M coupe or an M3 video tape it, and post it, maybe I would prove once and for all to the people that either don't have a 350Z and like to think that they know it all or for those that simply don't have a clue on how to extract the most out of their cars.

the 1999-2000 m coupe has 240 hp / 236 lb-ft.

i raced my friend in his stock 1999 m coupe and we were dead even from 2nd - 4th gears. i started to pull on him after 5th. there is no way the guy had 400 hp... he wouldve left u in the dust even if he really really sucks at driving. the s54 engine pushes 315 hp and is a relatively light car for it's size, about 3100 lbs. that is 200 lbs less than a 350z. the z is pretty quick, but there isnt a chance it would be able to stay with a car that quick. the gearing for the m's are higher meaning quicker acceleration. i think they only get up to about ~145 for top speed from the 5 spd.
