My buddy that works with me has a dealer modded WRX that is about an 02 and pushing around 280-290 HP according to the mods he has and what they provide. Apparently this is a common HP level for a typically modded WRX. Anyways, we happened to be on the same road on Saturday and neither of us new it was the other.

I was going down the country type highway at about 75 and I see a black sweet WRX pull up behind me and get up on me. I say oh ok i see. So I drop down to 4th and let it go. He stays with me about halfway through fourth and then I start to pull away and hit fifth and pull even more up to about 140. We came to a light and he pulled up and then I saw who it was and we rolled down the windows and he said nice run and that I pulled him. Cool. So then we go from a stop. Uh...

Each gear he pulled about a half car length on me. We only ran it up to about 70. He trounced me from a stop.

I think I am going to build my Z into a topend autobahn style performer as it seems like this is what it is better at anyways. When I start to mod, I am just going to install parts that compliment the strengths and buy a new Cobra or STi for the drag stuff....

 

I think draging is lame anyways. I had a similar experience on the track, playing with a slightly moded WRX. I walked him in the straights, but he was able to hold his own in the twisties w/ AWD. Not a bad car, just ugly.

 

Are u saying 290 at the flywheel or AWHP??

Just curious as i've run a WRX with a stage 2 Turbo pushing 18psi (i believe) that put down 280 AWHP and only pulled him about a car to 140 starting at 30mph.

AWD OWNS you from a stop. why do you think you were able to beat him from a roll? WRXs can go good, but not many trannys are going to last from 5K clutch drops! besides, the Z kills it in looks anyway! You want a fast 4 door, pick up and 02-03 max 6spd, you'll own stock WRXs all day long!

 

Well, duh, dude. Also, AWD only owns at our power levels and traction levels. Go extreme and it is not the same story.
