Default 350 vs. wrx

neone, raced a subaru wrx/? my friend has a 02 wrx, and he knows the 350z is fast, but he thinks its just as fast as his car. i drove his car many times. great car, great performance, but i'm hoping my sliverstone, 6MT, PERFORMANCE MODEL, will have a better punch .? i just wanna ask neone if they ever raced a wrx, before and how it turned out? THX

Assuming both cars are stock with equal drivers you should take him. You have to beat the heck out of the WRX for it to move... thatsubaru tranny is his weak link... take advantage of it.

I think it would be really close the WRX would pull hard off the line but they have weak top end power so by 60 the 350Z should start pulling!

At my first AutoX ever, I was able to beat every WRX, but barely. I'm not sure how experienced their drivers were, but they couldn't have had any less official experience than me. I would therefore say that the Z is definitely marginally faster, and possibly quite a bit faster depending on the skill of the driver.

In a straight line both cars seem similar when launched aggressively, but that deduction is based on reviews and second hand stories.

ive driven both. The Z is faster in the drivability range... as mentioned time and time again, the rex has to be flogged to see that 5.5 time. All the Z needs to see 5.5 times everytime is a set of thicker rubber.

Default It depends but by "stats" alone....

The Z should beat the WRX anytime.
The WRX(I've driven one) is fantastic for sudden burst but in
very fast speed is small and lighter. The 4WD compensate
and does it's job well. But in a race with the Z, the Z will win
and will feel better.
In less than ideal road conditions, gravel road, snow, and ice,
of course, the WRX wins against most rear or front wheel
cars.

I ran one hard from behind in my z when it was new, I short shifted at 4000rpm because it had 300miles on it. The wrx was foot to the floor belching brown smoke and i about ran it over from behind. was only holding half throttle and could lung on him continuesly from 30mph past 80mph and the wrx got slower on the pick-up the faster we got. NO Competion for a Z!!!

From a stop, its a drivers race, from a roll, the Z should pull.

dont kid yourselves into thinking the WRX is no competition. with a couple bolt-ons itll leave you wondering where your 30k went.

I doubt a couple bolt on will help that much because the wrx only weights about a 100lbs less than a Z (aprox. 3-4%) and has 20% less power and has a drivetrain wirh much higher parasitic drag due to the amount of extra parts it turns. just power to weight ratio the wrx needs 275hp!, that is simple or cheap to do right for very long. New turbo, intercooler, injectors and ECU that with good tuning would start you on a reliable chance, but you still have a chassis that won't handle as well.
The wrx will beat me to the ski slopes in bad weather and on gravel roads but I'm NOT going to drive my car in these situations.
All else fails the Lotus in the driveway will spank a wrx I don't care what you do to it.
And given a couple mods on the Z and how will the war go, its like apples and oranges comparison.

bolt-ons (bc/i/e/dp.up/ecu) will get a wrx low 13's. where will bolt-ons get you on that maxxed out engine? scc put an exhaust on a 350z, allbeit a custom one, but it still lost tq AND hp on the dyno.

Last time I saw a WRX with (bc/i/e/dp.up/ecu) ran low 12's in Colorado!! Factory turbo has more potential then N/A anytime.

Met with a WRX in B. Hills on Sat. night, late going home down Wilshire. In front was a 996 Carrera 2 and pre 993 Carrera 2. Try to gode the porsches into some action, no luck. The WRX was dying to go. Loud turbo, big single exhaust, all black, personal plates (powr8 or something like that). Anyway I get to the side, both of us crusing slow, like 10 MPH, I say "Beautiful car, looks mean. How many pounds you pushing with the turbo". Him "Like 10 Pounds". Me "Nice what did you do to it?" Then he admits he knows nothing about the car and that it was tuned by some shop, he just dropped it off and said "Make it Fast". He then Claims it has 380 HP. At first I was when I heard that but thought, man that car must be completly rebuilt to handle that much power. So he says lets race. I say fine, I'll lose. We race from a roll of about 15MPH. I punch it and take off screaming. He is beside me the whole time. BAM short throw to 2nd (btw my shifter is AWESOME, no problems with the tranny, smooth as hell, easy in high RPMS, really fun). Second I scream up to 60MPH and shift to third. Now through 2nd he still isn't passing me and I'm starting to think, what's going on, I still have the lead that I took on the jump, about 1/2 car. I throw it in third and about 2 secs. into third he completly drops back, so I kill it. He rolls up and begs for another round, won't tell me what happened, I'm thinking A: 380 HP OK. B: He def. has some work done so I won't be suprised if he missed a gear (even though we were even all through 1st/2nd. So we start again. 1st gear rolling start, bam shift to second (car bogs, slows down ***** forgot to turn off traction control, tires break lose in second gear shift and cause the car to slow) go through 2nd and he seems to be 1/2 car ahead, shift into third, BAM complet loss of power. I am standing on the gas and it is inching up through third gear. I'm thinking Good God, I just broke my car...my heart drops then I realise DOH! I put it in 5th gear. He of course was miles ahead. So I try and roll up and give it the Best Out Of Three try (now I know I can beat a stock WRX, unless the driver is amazing, as my brother has one and I beat him everytime, ESP. when the MPH got to 80+.) He refuses to acknowldge me and makes a right. Oh well. All in all I guess it's a win each, and god help the tuner that told him he has a 380HP WRX, esp as it lost to a "fat 350Z".

Ummmm, an unmodified rex runs with boost of 11psi, so the guy saying 10 is a doofus.
