hehe....but seriously...the Z looks much more refined than the Mustang...Interior is much nicer....and it handles much better.
Yes that 390HP Mustang that's coming out is gonna whip a Z into submission on a straight away....but I'd rather take a corner in a Z...and I'd rather be seen at a stop light in a Z.
My best friend has a Mustang hehe

Andrew-
I totally agree with what you said. The Mustang is just not comfortable at all, at least for me. The seats aren't even the least bit supportive. The shifter is way low and forward and makes gear changing awkward. The driving position is way too upright for my taste. The fit and finish just is not up to my quality standards and that's why I've only owned imports. The new Cobra has gobs of power, but I also wonder how reliable that supercharged V8 is going to be.

Yay! I have a chance at beating my bro again! lol
Once I sold my VR-4, he started bragging like a bastard! Time to put the punish on him. (I'm a much more experienced manual driver... hehe)

Saleen is a company that does mustang mods. You can have a saleen that has nothing but a suspension or a body kit. Then again they make a s281 that is nasty and they made ( do they still make it?) the s351 which is a beast and a half.

As far as the topic.. A new GT (1999+) is very capable of handing you your *** with very minor mods... stock for stock its a dead heat. Otherwise SVT Cobras newer than 1995 will walk you... The DOHC 4.6 is rated around 305HP in the newer Cobras.
So pretty much if you come acrossed the new body style... hold your breath, hope its a V6, and try not to be a dick if you lose. If its a Automatic... you will walk them stock for stock...the AOD absorbs a lot of HP. Also Verts will be a good run for you... Aerodynamics and the extra weight should be enough for you to edge them out. Not going to be a trailor trash mullet bearing redneck, but.. you maybe better off sticking to the road coarses.
And NEVER count out a 80s Fox Body... EVER.. If its primered, missing paint, looks like **** ...and sounds like a dying dog, it may be a sleeping dragon..its best not to **** it off Ive made my mistakes... you learn quickly.
Good Hunting.

Also Roush has several packages available..and Im sure any of those would be a handful.

The mustang is a nice looking car, especially with the Roush modifications, its just the poor manufacturing and engineering of the car that turns me off.
I mean, alot of my friends have the mustang because its a nice muscle car but there comes to a point when problems arise (like door jamming, engine failure, a whole list of problems that my friends suffered) that just makes you go "STOP! redo the freakin' car! something is wrong!"
perhaps that new 2005 mustang concept car will incorporate better engineering/building techniques...
as for beating a mustang gt in the Z... uh.. displacement always wins, right?

IMO, Mustangs are powerful domestic engines wrapped in a uninspired, cheap car. Thats just how I feel.

Before we all go magazine racing:
Once upon a time I had a 98 Cobra convertible.
It would rip off 13.6-7's all day -- stock. Run after run after run -- stock.
This same car also ran through 17k miles in the 10 months I owned it, nailed two curbs during ice storms in KC and never had a SINGLE problem -- not one. Hell it was not even out of alignment.
Going into the deal I was a bit skeptical with regards to Ford build quality. Not anymore. I have since come across other Ford owners with similar experiences -- and it makes me sad to see the slanderous attitude many Jap and Euro car boards take with regards to Ford and Chevy. Heck, even JD Powers ranks certain Ford and Chevy models well above many Nissan's and Honda's in both initial and long term reliability.
How many of the Z's sold have been back to the dealer at least once? (Bose fix issue anyone?).

Saleen is being very modest with their timeslips. They are claiming what a regular gt runs. They have added about 25 horses and a new set of gears to the s-281. I believe that this car is easily capable of mid to high 13's in this trim. Oh, by the way the new mach 1 will give it to a z stock.

My first hand experiences with new Mustangs...
Cobra SVT... I smart enough not to race, but had a chance to.
Mach I... slightly quicker than the Z, but only by a car length or two in 1/4
Bullitt GT... Z is quicker. I've beaten one myself. Pretty much the opposite of the Mach I story. I had 2-3 car lengths.
Regular GT... Z owns it all day long
Modified GT... Watch Out! GTs are easy to mod and the smart drivers don't advertise. I've lost to two GTs, but am sure they had to be modified considering how much I was beaten buy.
Bang for the Buck as long as they are going in a straight line, but I'll keep my Z's cornering, fresh looks, and better engineering every day

GTs are a joke...
Z with a ECU, Intake, Exhaust should give a Mach I a run for the money.
I raced a Cobra the other day (2k1-2k2) and he pretty much walked away from me slowly but sure from a roll at 60. They are fast cars but not SUPER fast.
Add a SC in the mix and I would pretty much say that the Z would give even the Cobra a run for the money. In a twisty road... sey la vi!
