No they are pretty slow. A 350 should at least get 4 car lengths on a GT in light to light race

Corection: Saleen's are not tuner car. Saleen has a automobile manufacturer license.

That said, I would take a 03 Cobra over a 03 S281 SC. For the same reason I pick my 99 Cobra over a 98 Saleen S281 vert. More power for less money.

Since Mach 1's are running low 13's stock (13.13 the best I've seen). Are you saying the above mods would knock off 6-8 tenths of a second from the Z 1/4 mile time? And what if the Mach 1 driver has a few mods? To know what these car are capable of check this out. As far as the mach 1 is concern 5.0 magazine got a 13.29 out of a bone stock car. Then added full exhaust, 4.30 gears, pulleys, CAI and slicks and ran a best of 11.98 @ 112 mph. Now imagine what would happen if you add a supercharger or turbo to the mix.

Through the curves he might keep up... the 350Z can handle nicely.

If you are talking stock: anything better than a base GT. INcluding: roush, saleen, cobra, mach 1, any poweradder mustangs, and so on.

Question To answer the original question....

Stay away from all Mustangs! By the time you figure out you picked on the wrong one, it'll be too late!

I am so tired of all the mustang vs Z discussions, it makes me SICK

The thing that makes me sick is most of these discussions are only about speed, times, 1/4 runs and how the Mustang is cheaper etc.. The people on forums are so hung up on speed and the above stuff I said things like the cutting edge neck wrenching good looks and included options and goodies along with a better quality interior and design and more efficient engine gets overlooked, who would't pay a few more $$ for it. Personally since you spend 99% of the time with your car inside of it I could not stand to be in one that was or looks like it was designed in the 80's. Say what you want about the "quality" of the Z's interior but its well designed and very cozy and modern.

We both like our cars for diffrent reasons and NOBODY is going to say "hmm, I never thought of it that way, the Z is a better car" or vis versa - Nobody is gonna bend and arguements comparing diffrent cars are pointless, expecially when you include variables like mods.

I am very happy with my Z, I LOVE the way it looks, runs, drives, handles and the attention it gets. Nothing feels better then pulling into a gas station or a coffee shop and everybody is staring like you pulled up in a super streached limo. And the high probability of having it run consistantly in the 13's is exciting with only my intake and good driving (opening drag day 4/2). Thats all I can ask for in a car for 33K

And for this math genius:

$19,000+$12,000 = 26,269?? In my world it equals $31,000 - So in REALITY you are actually left with a used ford product and just over $7K. And you can make a bet that just about any used mustang was beatin to an oblivion and I bet you the tires had already been replaced once..

Dude...he payed $19,000 for his car brand new..and here in Tampa where we both live the Z is retailing for around $31,000.

So his Mustang is not used and he got one hell of a car for the amount of money he spent.

Enh.. Ive gone thru 3 sets of tires this year. And both the Fbody and Mustang can be had in the low 20s... I believe the MRSP was around 23K. He definately got one hell of a deal. Look..the reason people keep bringing up performance stats is because if I was worried about refinement and comfort I would stay in my damn house in the lazy boy. Sorry I dont get a rush from comfy seats or going thru a 90 degree turn 5 or 6mph faster than the other sports cars and thinking that makes mine the best. Top Speed, 1/4 Mile, HP, TRQ.. The basics..thats what gets me going. Of course I bought a car that was designed in the 60s for those purposes. Guess I can't complain.

If he got his GT for 19,000 New (probably a old model blow out sale when the 03's came in) thats a good deal. But IMO you gotta be out of your mind to pay 31K for a base Z, I didn't think any dealership would have the ***** to mark up a Z nearly $5K and its almost hard to believe.

When I looked at a Z...the price was almost the same as what I was looking at paying for MSRP on the Cobra (I actaully got my Cobra below that)....Now, I can't remember what "trim" this was in....but, their was one HECK of a mark up.
Believe it or not

Well anything is possible, the Honda dealership like 10 miles from my house was selling S2000's for exactly 10K over MSRP sticker price. Can you imagine paying nearly 50K for an S2000?

Honestly, I can't see myself paying more then maybe $25K for a S2000. Especially since when my ex wife and I bought her Z3 we only paid $30 (granted it was used, but was the same year model as the year we were in with very low miles)

Thanks for the compliment I guess I am a math genius. No it was not used GT. It was a brand new 10 miles on the odometer Premium GT. Premium includes comfy leather seats, 6 in dash cd changer, 17 inch wheels and anti theft system.
No it was not a year-end blowout.

Sorry your tired of hearing the z vs Mustang “not really ” discussion. But when people post about a Z beating a GT by 5 car lengths and a Cobra by 2, I just have laugh then post B.S..

What are you running with those mods you have now? I am going to the drag strip a week from this weds, going to put in synth oil that morning also. I am hoping to run high 13's. We have a 1/4 mile marked on a road near my house and I ran 104 MPH but you can't be totally accurate tis way but it was encouraging.

this will be my first time at a drag strip, 2 years ago I spend 8k+ on my 1992 Eclipse GS-T modding it in the offseason just to have some zit face highschool kid that got his lic 2 weeks prior total my car 3 weeks before opening day. I am still trying to get over it
