The long intake is to build as much volume between the throttle body and the restrictor to give yourself an air reserve. It also helps to keep it from stalling on quick throttle changes. Now then, that said, a IR short runner manifold will give crisper throttle response. I have one of those also but it was too difficult to package with the SIR.

Yes, on that pull I backed out of it early as it was a redundent pull. The rev limit is set at 8k on the TEC3. The engine would easily rev past, but why stress the crank.

You would make more power with a bigger MAF housing for sure. I made more power keeping the stock intake box but just changing the MAF housing to a 3". I believe Z1 also made more power going to a 3" housing as well.

acutally they do , on our FWD VQs alot of the A32 guys use the 3.5 bottom end and 3.0 heads , it bumps up the compression.
Not sure if any RWD VQs have done the swap

Here's the image of his dyno sheet.

Like you, I am also used to calling the upper plenum an intake or intake manifold. Maybe people differentiate because one of our plenums doesn't contain any fuel. I don't know, but most here consider the inlet piping leading up to the plenum to be the intake.
I am also building an NA motor and am curious about your cam selection. You mention JWT valve springs. Do you have JWT cams, too? I'm curious which cams you are using. You could PM me the model number if you don't want to post it.

I bougt JWT blanks and had WEB cam cut them. I do not remember the profile # but it was a 278 degree @ .050" with .470" lift. With the Nismo titanium valves, thats all the lift you can run because of the step in the valve stem. I run the cams on 102 lobe centers. This was originally on my vq30 block. I just swapped it all over to vq35 block. With the comparibly gentle ramps of these cams compared to stock, the JWT valve spring is all you need to run to 8k rpm. Those stock cams slam the valve open and closed. I probably should have dialed some of the overlap out of it for the restricted motor. The drop in HP at 7.5k rpm is probably due to the 37mm SIR.

Ya, the guys running the dyno wanted to know also what it would do with no SIR. Problem was we were maxing out the stock injectors and I did not feel safe running more than 70 psi on the fuel rail. I guess in my old age I am becoming more chicken.

I can't see why/how you are out of injector - what fuel pump are you running? I know the ~ CR that you get with those heads with std pistons, and that shouldnt put you out of range of the stock injector/pump.
If you're allowed to run full MAP, and get rid of the MAF, you might gain a bit of headroom on the injectors as well
