Its amazing what people know who can't build an engine isn't it? Nice work, I was telling somebody today that if I was smart I would have spent all the money I did on the Z on tires, brake pads, and track time. Enjoy the hell out of it, its your car. I am going to guesstimate 267/255 hp/tq on a dynojet sae correction with a sweet torque curve.

Lol...ya the vid was the best I could do...and trust me, not exceeding 4k rpm's when it's just getting into the power/tone that makes it all worth it, is like having a hot 18yr old virgin say 'give it to me' and then run out of your bed naked.

Headers are nothing revolutionary and have been widely debated throughout multiple threads, however they appeared to be leaps and bounds better than what was on there, so I'll roll with them until I have a reason not to. Once the tune is done hopefully they'll add something. If not, they sound pretty damn good so it's not a complete loss. I'll have to get a better vid of a fly by etc. to satisfy the curiousity of Importdemon.

Unfortunately I wont have a baseline for any comparisons with or without the headers, which as far as I have found, has remained an online mystery as to what the megans actually do on paper.

I somewhat agree, but there is power to be made on stock heads. You yourself saw noteworthy gains from just an upgrade to 264's. One would think with the addition of a bit of compression these gains might increase incrementally over that of the stock compression. That's speculative of course.

It's been complete for a while now, just thought I'd post it for the community benefit as while the build was going on I scoured any and every thread related to the topic. So I figured I would contribute what I could in return.

I hear ya man. I guess my patience runs thin when it comes to internet boards...hence my low post count and reluctance to even share it. I bet there are quite a few people out there that dont share to avoid the critics.

Anywhoo...I'm proud of this project and think it came out great for what I needed/wanted.

The goal was to rebuild it instead of purchase a different motor with unknown issues. Mission accomplished. I liked the idea of putting the first mile ever on it and being able to take care of it right from the start, opposed to spending a considerable amount of cash on someone elses abused engine. I know there all sort of checks and measurements to ensure a used engine is a good engine, however when it came down to spending thousands of dollars, I chose this route and I'm happy with my decision. Albeit a more expensive route, I think its worth it.

It gets me from A to B, thats all. As for powa numbers I'm curious, but like I said, it really not all that important to me. It pulls good and with a tune I think it'll be pretty quick. I'll report back once I get it dyno'd for my second dose of criticism. I kid, I kid!

Wow. Talk about coincidence. I'm looking for info on rebuilding my oil guzzler 06 and the first post I open from search is from a fellow Z owner in Phoenix. I'm in Mesa. So I was wondering if you could give me some more info on your build. Which shop did you have the machine work done at? At what was the down time for the whole process? Thank you in advance for you help.

Dicks06, Why don't you search for yourself in the NA builds section of Engine/Drivetrain. There are at least 4 or 5 better build threads than this one.

I'm mostly looking for opinions on local shops to go to or steer clear from. I'm sure there is plenty other info I'll find searching around. I just like getting as many opinions about shops as I can.

So did you stick it out... Cam-less? I lasted about 1 year before realizing I made a mistake. I was in the same position as you un-planned rebuild didn't want to put a further $1000+ in.

But I have to say even without the cams, properly built it still feels and sounds great.

Still untuned in the high 270's (DJ number). Trouble shooting a fueling problem lately. One bank idling 20% rich.

For me, $1000 for the bottom end, about $800 in machining, + headwork (this varies $400-$1400+) Gasket kit $340, cams $1200, headers ($300-$1000), misc. stuff $600.

You can do a build for just the cost of cams and valve springs if your bottom end isn't burning any oil. The bottom end has been proven to make almost no additional power, so unless you have blown the thing up or are consuming a lot of oil - there's no need to do much bottom end work!

What would you recommend for such work on non-rev DE looking for more power on tight budget?

the bottom end never makes power unless you increase displacement by a meaningful amount - but it does need to stay together. On a non revup DE, that is of particular concern, particularly if you mate it with a cam that needs to rev

as for looking for more power on a budget on a non revup DE, aside from your basic bolt ons (spacer, exhaust, tune, gears), there really is no magic way to do it on the cheap unfortunately
