not happening on a non revup without substantial work

I did want to add something to what SG said regarding the bottom end. He eluded to it not making power, and this is correct. However it is the needed to rev the engine for some of the more aggressive cams (which in a round-about way means the bottom end helps to net some HPs). There is a couple of pieces needed in order to effectively rev past the DE's 7100-7300 ceiling: cams, valve springs and rod bolts (balancing doesn't hurt either).

But with that said you can still make pretty good power within the DE stock block's capabilities as SG has shown over and over again.

Still pending, need to replace a sticking injector (possibly replace them all with higher flow units just for peace of mind). I've really gotten it to tracking the car so the tune it so desperately needs has been backburner'ed to tires, brakes, and suspension updates. I'm feeling confident it will reach 290 (in the high 270's on a base map with an injector(s)/fueling problem) but from there its a crap shoot.

Yeah my De with 140k burns a quart every 1000 miles. And i don't want to sell the car i rather build the engine since i already replaced a ton of parts and upgraded. Just been shopping around i want to do something soon. But i want to keep it under 5k. Any suggestions people . I got all the bolts on and a osirus tune it put down 275whp at performance motor sport in long island.

z1 offers several different rebuild kits, i was going to go with the stage 2. it comes with pistons, rings, rods, gasket kit, and bearings. it sells for about 1400.00 plus ill have to factor in machine work. i have no problem doing the work myself. my only issue is i cant start all this until i get another car to drive around in. i agree that when you start including top end components it starts getting expensive very quick. im gonna try to save up for the jwt s2 cams as well but we will see what the budget allows.

I saw those. Do they make power as is? I.e. simple bolt up block? or are the replacements?

no - pistons and rods don't make power unless you increase stroke or displacement

parts at the upper half of the engine are what make power (coupled with proper supporting mods and tuning)

Does anyone sell pre-made upper half in that case? Or is the whole Idea choosing your own components for the build you want?

everything in the engine must compliment one another, from intake/intake manifold, to cams and headwork, to exhaust manifold to exhaust, and all be managed by an ecu that can allows control over the parameters necessary.

Everything is built to spec, and it's not simply adding part #1 to part #2

there is alot to know to get a setup you're happy with, but overall, it's like any other project

set a goal
seti a budget
deal with people who have done it before
with the above, you'll get results you expect, with a price you allocated for, and it will be reliable. Or, you'll find that your budget doesn't match your goals, and one or both need to be re-evaluated. It really is no different from any other major undertaking, even those outside of the car realm

/Hijack -

Eventually I will need to built a short block with forged pistons and rods...
What is the going rate to have the block cleaned/bored .020 over ?
Cost to have the rorating assembly balanced as well?

I know it varies from place to place, but a rough idea?
