NA Dyno run with boltons
hey whats up.. after 3yrs owning my 2005 350Z.. finally took it for a dyno run. on a Mustang Dyno.
I wouldnt say its an "NA build", but seems to be the only spot to post it.
current boltons:
UR crank pullie
Injen CAI ( full tube)
MD plenum spacer
Berk HFC
Ichiba Y-pipe
Tanabe SMH exhaust
before ever going to the Dyno, I always felt my car pulled hard and it drives great. and unless its just my brain tricking me, I could definitely feel power gains as i got each part installed. actually felt the most gain from the cats.
so on the mustang dyno I got:
231whp.
214wTorgue.
John, my tuner ( who will eventually tune my Vortech setup), said the car pulled well, all was good, and AFR was good range for NA car. and all was safe.
I knew I couldnt expect much, but I must admit I thought I would have gotten more..? but John suggeted the Mustang Dyno is not forgiving, and will post much lower numbers then other dynos.
the obvious result of this, is the added motivation to go FI..!!
in the end.. it was a great/fun experience. it was awesome to see the car running on the Dyno. and the results will pose as a good base for later on..!

yes im sure its that..
there is a Dyno jet in my area.. I may go for a run on it.. to see the difference.
John the Tuner.. said he's strapped FI cars on the Mustang Dyno, and showed 50whp less then the owner got on other machines..
for me personally, unless I go FI, my NA numbers dont really matter. Sure I would have liked to see 250whp range, but Regardless, the car pulls great.
but I am curious for feeback, if my numbers seem a little too low..?

I pay little attention to the numbers and more attention to the graph.
I assume there is a bit of smoothing here but horsepower could not be better. Diagonal line is beautiful.
Torque also looks good but do not like the peak at 5,000 RPM. Would prefer to see peak torque closer to red line.

things like this are good to know.
John the tuner, did suggest that at the higher RMP range, the AFR was a little rich, but nothing bad. he suggests its cause of my spacer and intake showing more air, therefore ECU compensates with more fuel.
I am pretty knowledgeable, but at a certain point technicalities do go over my head. but John was great..! before and after each pull, he explained exactly what he was going to do, and then the result.
he predicted a 240whp range, before even starting, but he also affirmed the graph and results etc.. were still very good.

few people have been doing swaps with LS2's into their Z's. There's even a LS7 from a corvette Z06 that's been swapped into one(but it's full-race). Cost about the same as a FI build, you don't get the same kind of power, and reliability is up.

he setup everything perfect..
as he advised and multiple people already confirmed here.. the Mustang Dyno posts lower numbers. im sure if I was on a DynoJet, I would get 250-260whp range with my boltons.
he asked me what i thought the car would make before he started to strap it down.. I suggested Id like to see 250whp range, he estimaded 240whp with a confidence like he knew he would be closer.... the car hit 231whp, therefore the guy is quite experienced, to have estimated so close.

hey whats up..
like i said before, at a certain point my decent knowledge gets surpased..
but the very first run he did.. he ran the car through all the gears all the way to 6th.. and brought the car up to 165kph. and then let the car cost in Neutral. and recall he did this so that the Mustang dyno was Calibrated to exactly my car, with the exact losses etc..
therefore the more feedback I get.. my numbers make more and more sense, and actually prefer to have something more realistic, then a 270whp figure, thats not really that accurate..!
