Default To Carb or Not to carb, that is the question...

My baby is now 14 years old with 150K miles. She has been my faithful daily driver for all these years without a single major problem to deal with. Now that I have a new daily drive it is time to return the love turn her into the animal she has always aspired to be

I have many decisions to make and a whole lot of time to make them. I have already decided on an LS swap of some kind using a Sikky swap kit as a starting point. Something about a Holly 850 double pump gives me a hard on. And a cowl induction hood would just be a mesmerizing site on a low slung 350Z.

But I was looking for opinions, and experience, from anyone that has done an LS (or other motor type) swap to a carb'ed motor instead of fuel injection?

And before anyone goes crazy with trolling my post or telling me i'm stupid etc...
She is going to be my fun car not a crazy car. Daily over the summer and sleeping snugly in a garage over the winter (mostly ).

I think hardest route on going carb would be wiring harness, with injected its already been done and harnesess readily available

sikky makes a great kit, seen it first hand as my buddy did an ls in his g

Just 2-cents here but don't see much "sense" in going "backwards" to a carburetor. I love me some nice Holley as well but just don't see it being "right" on a Z33 with a modern engine that has had all (or most of) the FI bugs worked out and is more tunable through electronics. (As well as tweaking the FI)

If you were to run an old small block (or big rat) from the past, maybe.... but on an LSX... ehhhh, not so keen.

But, your car and I'm in to see how that would turn out, FI v. carb. It'd be interesting, I'll say that much.

Don't go backwards , too much hassle , exspecialy since you would be lacking a lot of resources.

But there is a solution, Holley has come out with a fuel injection system that takes the apperence of a Holley carb. You should check them out. I saw a YouTube video not too long ago about it. If I find it I'll post it for you. Best of both worlds. You get the apperence of a carb but the luxury of fuel injection.

Here is a start for ya

Nice find slicnicz33!

I have an old small block 350 from my high school days, 25+ years ago. It's an old motor but it's clean and it was running when I pulled it so long ago. Thats what I was kind of throwing around the idea of putting in the Z. It's why I was wondering if anyone had done a carborated engine swap in a Z. I know it's backwards. I just don't have a lot of experience with EFI V8s. I'm an old school motor head.

It may be more work than it's worth. I'll have to ask around the race shops in my area and see if they have any ideas or suggestions. So far it sounds like the sound advice it to stick with an LSx crate motor and use the available resources.

WOW It's been too long since I was on these boards. So many young bucs on here now :-D And they ALL know more than me at this point hehhe

You might be able to get away with that setup, you would have to convert to cable driven throttle , all your tunning and what not would have to be done by hand as well no computer, and if you need a tachometer, you would have to get an aftermarrket one or deal with the oem headache. Then the hill you would have to climb next would be the conversion, ( tranny adapter plate, motor mounts, oil pan, motor fit ment , ) it can be done but you have no guidance because I don't believe it's been done before . Good luck.i would save that motor for something older that the chassis doesn't use electronics already, old c10 or f100 or even a street bettle
