Default Newbie to the Nissan garage

whats up every one? my name is Omar, i am 24 years old and i am a newbie to this forum and to Nissan, i have never owned a Nissan but i am planning to sell my 02 WRX and get 350Z or BMW (2001-2004) 330ci in three months from now. the WRX was my frist Japanese car, i have owned Jetta, GTI, F150, so as a newbie i would like to learn and educate my self about the Z.

i always thought the Z was a wonderful car but i was more into Germen cars until i drove a Z couple of weeks ago, i just fill in love, more then the bmw 330ci.

so hopefully i can get ideas, thoughts about the Z and things like that from you guys.

I was in the exact same choice situation a couple of years ago... I finalized my picks between a new 330Ci and a 350Z (this after eliminating the RSX Type-S from the selections). Chose the Z and didn't regret it in the least. Hope you get yourself into a Z soon

I was in the same boat as you:
College/ post-college kid, wanted a nicer ride with a touch of "symbol status". I was seriously considering a 330ci but where I'm from, there are sooooo many variations of the 3-series it has become the volk-status-quo commuter car.

One day, while watching an old guy blissfully cruising in his corvette, I had an epiphany:

I realized I had the rest of my life to drive comfortably and right now I wanted to be that "old dude" enjoying his sportscar! He looked SO content! I wanted THAT feeling.

Zeroed down to the 350z and S2000, but the Z lineage has been strong in our family for so many generations that I had to go with it.
Love it ever since!

I can be in my death bed tommorrow and you won't hear me saying "Oh gosh I wish I knew how it was to own and flog a 330ci??"

Anyhow, the new totally revamped body style is out anyway, your new car will feel dated.

Trust me, you wont regret getting a Z. Sports cars are soooo much more fun to drive! Who needs a back seat anyhow?

Had a 01 330Ci before my 05 350. No comparison. The 350 is the better car
in my opinion. If you want luxury get the 330. If you performance, looks and
are willing to give up the wood trim... get the Z. Don't get me wrong
the 330 is nice performing car... but it's too predictable and lacks excitement
not to mention the torque of the 350.

Welcome to the forum=)
If you're thinking about 01-04 330ci, the go for the Z all the way.
I don't really see a point of getting discontinued/outdated model when the
new model just came out.
Well maybe it's cuz that you don't like the new 3 series..or because you can get good deal on last gen 3 series..anyway,
Unless you go for the new 3 series, I say Z all the way.

.well i want to thank you guys for responding, i know its a hard choice, i can't decide yet, i know they 330ci is going to be outdated with the new body style but i could careless, and i also careless about all the luxury the 330ci has to offer, cuz i am going to modify it.

Everybody is telling me to get the Z, and at the end of the day i am the one who is going to be driving it, and i know if i got the Z i won’t be disappointed,

I know I can get a lot more power from the Z and there are a lot of body kits and modification components more then the 330ci and that’s what is actually making me lean towards the 350Z.

Our biased opinions aside, I'm gonna be real with you.

Do you have a daily driver? Or at least some close friends/ family with a car that you have flexible access to?

Even though the Z is a great sportscar/ tuning platform, it gets really impractical if it's your only car. You can barely carry anything more than some groceries or give anyone any rides.
But to a single 24 year old, that might be an advantage.

If you're asking us if you should get a Z, then we'd definitely say yes for obvious reasons . So instead of asking yourself if you should get a Z, I'd learn more about the car in itself. Ask what are all the pros & cons to the car. Also, what are the common issues to owning this car such as the well known tire feathering issue. Once you get a good understanding of this, this should either strengthen or weaken your descision in buying this car. Like you said, you will ultimately be the one driving this car.

lol yes i am aware of that the car doesn't have that much of luggage space and all that, but yes i am a single guy so i don' think i will have problem with that, a seat for a girl next to me is enough lol. I have an access to other cars, or there is always a budget near by.

Careful between the two. They are pretty different cars, so try to figure out what you want first. My parents would not let me get an M3... But occasionally I regret not choosing the 330ci ZHP (I think they had ZHP on it.) They're way differnt cars and I love my Z, but seriously I do regret not getting the more comfortable ride and way nicer interior. Z is funner to drive though. Hands down.

I have to drive my mom's civic occasionally. It would suck to have the Z as the only car.

Great idea GTNPU Z, I'll start....

Pros:
-Beautiful car , clean lines with sexy curves
- One of the most exotic looking designs you can purchase for under 40k.
-Great usuable powerband once driver is accustomed
-Solid handling, comfortable for all around sports car
- Almost limitless aftermarket support, growing like wildfire
- More than capable tracking abilities (agile, docile, potent)
- Racing lineage, heritage, and can be found in almost any popular motorsport application.

Cons:
- Two seater (but some pimp-factor for single and dating )
- A couple hundred pounds from being unstoppable (cost some money to put it on a diet )
- Understeer from the factory, a coil over and swaybar away from awesome handling.
- Appeal is almost TOO universal. Too many people want one. Meaning...
- Many non sportscar enthusiasts on the road

Known Issues/TSB:
- Tire feathering (after alignment and aftermarket wheels, gone for me)
- Cabin can make noises (gone after a little dynamat and insulate)
- Not perfect from the factory, Bridgestone Shitenza tires are the downfall of the stock car.
- F*ck Nissan dealerships
- F*ck Nissan Salesmen
- F*ck Nissan Service
- Excuse my french

well its really hard to find all things in one car, but you could always change it they why you want it, currently i am driving my cousins two BMW M3's one is 02 and one is 1989 (click on the link in my sig to see them) the BMW M3 is a wide body M3. and as it is really hard to get every thing in one car.

I have an additional "CON" (one that everyone should be aware of if they want a Z for a tuning platform)

Modifying this car is not very cost effective on the performance gains.

It's not cheap horsepower like say... a Mustang GT or an EVO. You have to spend like the big dawgs to have a land rocket. But if the Z is your style, it's oh so worth it.

So yeah...

Con - "Performance gains are not cost effective for those on a budget. No cheap horsepower!"
