Cool Long-time lurker, finally joined the club

I used to drive a '77 Datsun 280Z 5-spd when I was in college . I loved that car, it was my fun 2-seater sports car that I bought used and kept for almost 12 years. Over the years of ownership I lowered the car (shorter and stiffer springs, adjustable Tokico shocks, and larger anti-sway bars) and got some larger than stock Enkei rims (15x8) and low 50-series profile tires (this was in the mid-80's, so it was considered low-profile by those standards).

I was planning to upgrade and get a new 300ZX in the mid-90s, but after I got married and we had our first child I was forced to get a proper 4-door car (some nonsense about not being able to carry a baby in the front seat, or something silly like that ). My wife did compromise and agreed for me to get a stick shift, so I got a 5-spd Maxima SE (it is still my daily driver). She also agreed that I may get a Z car again sometime in the future.

That time has come. Call it mid-life crisis, call it juvenile tendencies, or whatever other label is appropriate, but I don't care. Two weeks ago I got my new toy (2004 Daytona Blue 350Z Roadster Touring 6MT with 12K miles on it), just because I wanted it. This will be primarily a weekend fun/toy car.

I have been a lurker on this (and other) 350Z forums for over a year , when I decided that 350Z is definitely the roadster that I wanted to get (after also test driving Honda S2000, BMW Z4, and Porsche Boxster). Despite the problems I have read about on this forum (tire feathering, window motors going out, notchy transmission, etc.), I decided to get a 350ZR anyway, and so far I am extremely happy with my decision. I tend to forget all these potential minor annoyances as soon as I put down the top and step on the gas pedal .
