Default Downshift from high rpm 3rd gear to 2nd...

I was flexing against a Mach 1 mustang and I, like a retard, shifted from high rpm 3rd gear down to 2nd gear, and stepped on it The car (06 Z) got sideways but I hit the clutch and it straightened out and that was it....
Point being........ does the Z have some fail-safe which cuts out to avoid a dropped tranny??? Because I didnt smell anything and nothing bad happened, something should have broke, shouldnt it???? Does it have a fail safe that cuts out? does anyone know???
advice much appreciated...

Yes, there is a rev-limiter, but it is mainly for upshifting. If you downshift into the wrong gear and the rpms spike like that, its not going to work the same. Be careful because you can easily blow an engine by doing this.

Yes. The 350Z has a rev limiter, but it is not fail safe. You just discovered that.

Just be careful next time and don't rush to slam it into gear.

Funny. I raced and old school Mustang about 3 years ago in my Z. I also mis-shifted from 3rd to 2nd and nearly lost control. I was a sloppy shifter at the time so I've been gaining experience since then. I can pretty much shift without lifting now and actually win :-)
