Default New Owner Questions

Hi everyone,

Just picked up an 04 track pack in daytona blue, and had a couple questions I was hoping someone could answer for me

First of all, I was showing the car to a friend, and after starting the car and getting out, I closed the door. A few seconds later I realized that it had locked itself on me with the keyes inside, engine running and I had to use the spares to get back in. My previous cars never did that, and I'm wondering if this is normal or some sort of electrical gremlin.

Secondly, I've noticed steam coming out of the engine, off the hood etc after driving. I mean driving as in, taking a short slow (no hard driving) trip to the local gas station and back (probably 10 minutes of driving) . Granted, it is fairly cool and damp out, but again I don't recall this happening on my previous cars.

Just hoping someone can alleviate my new owner paranoia, as I am absolutely in love with the car, and am glad to have found a community like m350z to learn on. Thanks!

Firstly welcome to the community and I'm sure you're having a fab time in the Z already.

I wouldn't have thought if the engine was running that the car would lock. Is that an aftermarket alarm or still the stock factory? Does the car have a full service history?

Enjoy and try not to be too paranoid.

Welcome and congratulations.

Not sure if you can lock yourself out of the car with the car running. 48,000 miles and it has never happened once. Never seen steam from under the hood either.

It's a factory system, and was bought from a nissan dealer with service history. I'm thinking it may have simply been a fluke on my part (perhaps I accidentally pushed lock on the key fob or something, not sure).

As far as the steam is concerned though, I really don't know what that's about. Neither the hood, nor the engine are radiating heat excessively, and just light bits of steam coming up...they don't really seem to be originating from any particular area. The car sounds/runs/drives fine, all the gauges indicate that it's got proper oil pressure (as per the recommended specs I've found on this site).
I'm just wonderning if it could be the the cold weather mixed with the dampness.

I'd check the oil as well as the radiator. See if either is low.

Was just searching around, and came across some info about HG problems. Could this be it? What would be the best method of testing this theory? I'm gonna be pissed if thisis the case

Edit* Thought I would also add that this car has only 39k KM on it. I don't see how it could already have a bad HG.
