Default Adding a sub and more...

Well long story short, I picked up a very well taken care of 03 track. I noticed that the CD is stuck in the non-bose stero and it won't come out at all. Most places want to ship it out and whatnot. That would seem to cost a lot of time. What I was thinking is this...

-getting around the CD issue by adding an Ipod adapter.
-Adding a 5 channel amp.
-Using the stock head unit and wiring.
-Using RCA signal converters on the audio outs and routing it to the amp
-and adding a sub into the stock touring sub spot

So, I think I have all my questions figured out except some about the sub enclosure. Since I have a track edition, all I have is the cut out of the unibody for the 10" sub. I know that subs like to have a certain amount of space right? Can I just mount a 10" sub in the hole and call it good or do I need to fab a box for the back of it? Really, I know nothing about subs.
Thanks guys!

If the CD is stuck, I hope you like the music until you upgrade your system.

Seriously, many members have chucked their non-Bose and Bose systems too. You'll read all about it in the sub-forum(pun intended).

Welcome and congrats. I don't think there are many Idaho members here.

I really wouldnt recommend the RCA signal output converters...You REALLY limit the quality going to the amplifier. I would honestly see about switching out that headunit completely and getting something with RCA outputs. You won't regret it.

Opps, wrong section I see. ha.

It sounds like I would need a new head unit that would work with the NAV system still. Do most of the new ones work the the NAV? Might have to opt for something a bit higher end to get that feature.

I think you have to tap a wire so you can hear the nav girl talking through the speakers with an aftermarket headunit.
