New card-carrying member of the Zed family
Heya,
Longtime admirer. First-time owner. I took delivery of this 2007 Nissan 350Z Enthusiast on Oct. 4 (pictured). Color is Carbon Silver.
I upgraded from a 1999 Nissan Sentra I've been driving since graduating from college (pictured).
It's been some time since I drove a manual, but I'm starting to get the hang of the Z after a weekend behind the wheel. Any pointers on making my shifts smoother? My terminology might be off, but it seems as though I'm occasionally popping the clutch from second to third, and so forth (there's a bit of a jerk). Any pointers? I'm worried about damaging the transmission ... I don't know if this is the product of the Z being a sports car.
It's good to be a member of the Z family.

Welcome! As far as tips driving, I would take it easy and try not to accelerate fast. Work more on your transition than fast driving. The Z in general has a pretty clunky shifter. But I like the way it feels. When you shift, you know have shifted. There are many ways you can smooth out your driving. But since you are starting back up, the easiest way is to just let the rpms drop a little before engaging and letting your syncros do the work.
There ware many ways to smooth your shifting and increase your technique. I would just search this forum, there are plenty of threads like that.
As far as the two holes on the bumper, yeah, I had the same problem. I just got some bumperplugs from bumperplugs.com. They work great. Have fun with your car and drive safe!

Congrats! Don't worry, it will all become very naturally in a short period of time. The more you worry, the less likely your brain will do what is habit.
Just form good habits.
- Don't ride the clutch, that's what the dead pedal is there for.
- Don't coast in neutral, you have less control of the car in case of emergencies.
-Usually shift down before a corner to avoid shifting during the turn.
-Completely depress the clutch and you'll avoid any question about it being enough and will be more adept at dealing with the differences of other clutches.
