Smile Dream car attained!!

Whats up everyone, my names Jimmy! I live in Idaho.

Down to buisness. So the Blue Z I wanted fell in my lap Saturday morning. I traded in my 2001 prelude in the process.

I now own a Blue 2004 touring model 6sp w/22k. I opted to purchase the extra insurance, it costs me 38$ a month. I can cancel at any time. They say its bumper to bumper to 100k, excluding maintainance. Life is funny, and I have a huge delemma now. I just had my pay cut by 25%, this morning, handy huh?! Thats a whole other story, keeping the z wont be an issue. From all you experianced Z owners, should I keep the insurance? What problems (all cars have them) am I likely to encounter here? I read about the front tire wear, someone mentioned the window motors, and also saw someone mention the sound system (amp). Tires the warrenty wouldnt cover. The amp and the window motors I would think it would. Someone else mentioned the tranny might start giving me issues at 75k.

Anyway, I think you can see what I'm getting at. Is the 40 dollar insurance worth it for me to keep, especially since I am in this new financial bind?

Can someone be super cool and give me a brief Z newb rundown?

I vow to use the search function always! This isnt my first forum, luckily haha. Looks like the newbs are slaughtered daily here (typical).

Thanks all!

window motors is more of an 03 problem and its not an expensive fix but if the tranny hasnt already been replaced it will most likely have 2 in the near future so balance it out as far as big money problems go your really looking at the tranny

hmmm so as far as that goes, it would be close to a wash I would imagine, assuming the tranny does indeed fail. The extra ins. premium is 2245$, broken up over 5 years. Tranny I assume would be around 2k.

So do you think I should keep it then if the tranny is likely to fail?

Damn, my old lude had a flaw in the auto tranny... bad tranny was a reason for getting the z in the first place... *sigh*

Welcome and congrats Jimmy! Nice to see more members in the Northwest. Do you by chance have the 2004.5 model vs the 2004. Knee pads on the tranny hump sides are an indicator if it's a 2004.5. I think the sure way is to look at a label in the door jamb, but do a search of the topic to find out. I believe there were several mechanical changes in the Z at that point.

I'd drop the extra insurance. Your drive train warranty is 5 yrs./60,000 miles.
There are many catches in most of those extended policies like deductibles, items not covered, maintenance requirements, etc. and that is a whopping premium. Most consumer groups do not recommend them. Think of it this way: there is a reason they make lots of money selling policies. If they don't and go out of business you get screwed that way.

The 2004 Z is pretty well rated for dependability. Stick that money in a savings account that you can access if you need to and for practical purposes you will be insuring yourself and making interest off the money.

I always wondered: if you are from Idaho are you an Idahoite, Idahoer or an Idahoian?

I recently purchased an 04 roadster with 14k miles on it and got the same type of warranty for that price as well. In some ways I regret it but It's really not too bad spread out over so many months. I guess it was good for me because I had convertible top problems within a month of getting it and it was all covered by my warranty (would have cost close to $1k otherwise). Overall I don't it's too big of a ripoff, but I know it can't be easy taking a pay cut like that.

I have an '06 that I bought 3 weeks back. has a 36,000 mile full warranty. they wanted to sell me all other kinds of warranties but I had a gut feeling it was a rip...

I did end up getting the wheel and tire package which costs an extra $10/month (covers everythign except curb rash)... but how often does a wheel/rim warp?

eehhh...

Ok so back to buisness here. Today at 2:30 I have to decide if I want to keep this insurance (I slowed up the process debating) I already called the dealer and said I didnt want it, and he called me back today with a lower premium hahaha. Now its 30 a month.

What would you all do? I am so torn.

My APR on my auto is 7.99%
I have a fixed credit card at 7.99%
My thought, if something broke, like the transmission, I could finance the repair for the same interest rate. The insurance is a prepaid premium that adds onto my loan. (refund check to the bank if I cancel)
