New owner, just saying hello. 08 350z and 05 STi.
Hey All,
Just saying hello.
Picked up my new 08 350z(base model) last thursday from Marlboro Nissan, over here in MA.
Walked off the lot with it for 26,400.
I've only put 50 miles on it since then(it snowed fierce here on friday).
I also own a very decently modded 05 Subaru Wrx STi(AP stage 2-meth tune, cobb springs, sways, and end links, walbro 255, kartboy short throw, borla xr-1 cbe mated to a maddad v2 dp, defi boost, oil, egt gauges, rally armors, v-limited lip, sti pinks strut towers, and perrin fuel injectors, and a beautiful set of volks for summer.
I've always loved the looks of the Z. I have to say- after my test drive i also fell in love wth how the car "felt". It just felt right.
So the Z will be my new daily driver.
To be honest, i don't realy plan on modding it too much. I really don't have extensive knowledge of the vehicle yet anyhow. I am gonna do my research for awhile then we'll see.
One quick question. I was reading that Nissan paint is horrendous. I thought Subaru's was bad. However, apparently Nissan's is even worse.
Clear bra or something like it....worth it? Or just skip it, because pebbles and stone just happen, and there is no way to avoid it(what i did with my STi).
Thanks for your time. sorry for the long post. I look forward to the tme in my new car, and reading these boards.
sincerely, matt

Congrats and welcome to the forum.
Edit: If you're going to say you own __________ , we're going to need pics! Unwritten my350z rule I guess.

yeah...i'm very happy....however its unfortunate how it all happened....
i took a loan out on my STi when i bought it in March of 05.
That summer my grandfather passed away. He left my 2 sisters, and myself some money(being his only grandkids).
I was 27 at the time, and had just purchased my house as well.
I have an ok job, nothing spectacular. So i used most of the money to pay off the note on the STi.
I've been wanting another car for awhile. I've always loved the Z and the G35 coupe. I just happened to have last week off, and was kicking around the internet. I got in touch with Marlboro Nissan's internet sales guy, and the rest is history.
oddly, it costs about the same for me to insure my brand new 08 Z, as it does my 3 year old STi, through Metlife. I have to fax them the info that i have guidepoint installed, so that may bring it down to under what the STi is to insure.
anyhow, as i said before- i look forward to searching these forums, and driving my new car.

good thing you have one of the older sti's---subaru kinda screwed the pooch on the new one. thought it was hideous the first time i saw it, but said," maybe its looks will grow on me in time" nope........still fugly. imo the new model should increase the value of the older ones!
tell me about it...
i'm all for making a car look more "grown up"(kinda like how Mitsu did a great job with the Evo). However, the 08 STi is just ugly IMHO. It does look better in person, than in pictures. However, its still not something i would pay 33,000-38,000 for.

Welcome and congrats. Pics of the two cars?
I've heard complaints about the paint, but so far with 30,000+ miles on mine, I haven't noticed an unusual problem. I don't drive roads with a lot of traffic so that might have made a difference.

welcome and congrats on your z!
as far as clearbra goes, i think it depends on the color. i was originally planning on getting half my z covered in the clearbra but then i saw another ppw that had its clearbra on for a while and it looked SO BAD i couldn't bring myself to do it. i'd rather live with minorly chipped paint than a yellowed/perpetually dirty looking z.
