New Z owner....insurance question.
Progressive takes higher risk policys and people such as yourself. Shop around, but compare apples with apples, not with oranges.
BTW, welcome and congrats on your car. Hopefully your record will get better and you will enjoy it more. Less insurance costs = more money for mods too.

Originally from California now stationed in North Carolina. First car under my name, first insurance under my name. Im 20 years old here w/ one speeding ticket (48 in a 40) and im paying 62.00 for full coverage with USAA Credit Union with just the 2003 Blck Trck Ed. Z.
I'm 34, with State Farm, no priors like tickets or wrecks and I pay around $109.00 a month for full coverage. Not sure if it's gonna go up when I pick up my new '08 this Thursday though.
WHATEVER you do, whoever you go with, watch your limits. Most states have a minimum of 10-15K. This is not sufficient, if you total even a Z you'll get suied!!!!!!!!!! I am an insurance adjuster and the lowest limits I would even have is 100k. To reduce your rates, raise your deductible. Have a 1000 deductible and I recommend 100/500/100. Go to an independent agent and have them help you find insurance, that way you speak with one person and they search several different companies.

FoxyRed is right. I am an ex-adjuster and am now an agent.
Remember this, each driver must be rated for who they are, what they drive, their individual driving record, how they drive/use their car, how many miles they drive, etc. Not everyone has the same rate. Each rate is customized based on the individual's specific risk factors.
Just because a 50 year old with a clean driving record and lives in Idaho pays $350 a year to drive his Z, does not mean that the 18 year old in New York will pay the same thing. In PA, I would look at Erie. Good company and fair rates.
Oh, Progressive is a rating company, not an underwriting company....by nature, they will usually be higher, but not automatically.

i pay $326.00 a month, and $3941.00 for the year for full coverage through RBC / Royal Bank of Canada, and if i was going to insure it through another place that i got a quote from it was going to be 6400 a year! but i only insure it with full coverage for the 6 months that i drive it. then i put storage insurance on it..

Also, forget about the on-line quotes unless it is a totally online insurance company (ie esurance), i have found that the on-line quotes are false. Go around to some agencies and get official quotes.
