Got my 08 350Z 6MT two days Ago.NEED HELP:(
Thanks for all your help!!! you guys are really nice!!! i will do the best i possibly can to practice. lol..
btw, i have one more question.
my parking space is on an incline . Everytime i go home, i have to park the car on this steep incline. I use first gear to go up the incline, and the problem is that as soon as i am on this steep incline(my parking spot), the car almost stalls.i am so scared and i quickly hit the clutch, and brake, and put the car in "N".but when i hit the clutch, there's this clicking clicking sounding coming from the somewhere of my car. What is that clicking sound all about? and how am i supposed to properly park my car on this steep incline without stalling and the strange clicking sound? Did i use the wrong gear or i did something wrong?
Million Thanks in advance!!!

That's a common thing with Z's, noisy tranny. But I guess it's good b/c it warns you that you better give your car some gas or else it's gonna stall!
What I do on incline parking lot is... Again, engagement point is very important. Leave your clutch at the engagement point where you will be able to "stop" on the incline without having to give it gas. Then, step on your gas and let go JUST A LITTLE of your clutch, and keep pumping the gas.
Try to keep your RPM's low though or else it's not good for the tranny. And try not to do it too much as you're basically riding the clutch.
For learning manual, I have another method. I suggest finding an empty street where there is a merely mild decline. A lot of people seem to stall even practicing on flat roads for some reason- I dont know why. So, if you practice on a declining surface, you will not have to face the misery of stalling (compared to learning on the flat), and thus [less likely] messing up your tranny. However, you will get that uncomfortable "jerk" though if you don't do it perfect.
And oh yeah. I was in same situation as you when I got my car a year ago. had exact same feeling lol. Even today, I still cannot shift perfectly and it pisses me off sometimes.
GL man, I still remember the first day I got her. Damn thing really made me feel like I was in heaven since I literally slept in there the first few nights.
Edit: BTW what part of Canada are you from? These cars are very expensive up there.

it's amazing how many people replied trying to help you out. that's really great. anyway, if you're still having trouble with the engagement point in first gear, try moving the car without the throttle AND do 5 perfect ones in a row without even thinking. sorry to backtrack, but it is truly important to master this. once you've got that down try resting your right foot on the throttle just enough to raise the rpm to about 1,200. once you have delicate touch with the throttle mastered, try releasing the clutch slowly and make the car move. if you can make the car move normally from this rpm you are the man. next thing to learn is to become more proficient at it! do this quickly and smoothly enough to the point where slight hills don't phase you and you're not overevving sounding like a beginner or creeping back. of course the steeper the incline the higher the revs need to be held. i wouldn't recommend "pumping" the gas until you have truly mastered this because any sudden release of the clutch or stab at the throttle can cause a stall or lurch. plus, that type of "riding the clutch" is for riceboys with loud exhausts or drifters with at least 350whp like me

practice practice yayFor me, I have a driveway and my garage is fairly small, so I have to be very precise about where I park or else I risk getting my mirror chopped off. On the incline, I can't let go of the clutch all the way and have to ride the clutch or else my car would be shooting up. Isn't what I stated above what everyone does when they try to park into their garage with an inclined driveway?

it's just this guy is brand new. if he can learn how to do it with a steady delicate throttle and clutch application he is far better off. otherwise he might start bad habits like revving up too high and riding the clutch. i picked up the bad habits from my drifting friends. i said, man that sounds cool lol.
You relly need someone in the car with you who knows how to drive a manual transmission. They can give you lots of tips on what you need to do. Having said that, I guess I was fortunate in that when I had Drivers Ed in high school, I was taught how to drive a manual. Of course, it was a three on the tree but the way you shift is essentially the same. I taught my daughter how to drive a stick and she now drives like a real pro. She will be 25 in a couple weeks and now owns two manual transmission cars. I doubt she will ever want to go back to driving an automatic.
It just takes practice. Anyone can do it so keep with the driving around. If you are reasonably careful, your Z will also survive your learning.

Hey man hang in there, id love to hear an update on how your doing with that car now. Its frustrating having a beast in your driveway and not being able to drive it. Keep at it, and on a uphill id say the combination of clutch and accelarator works great.
i think all that really matters is if your determine to learn rather than forced to learn. i remember when i first learned, i didnt care about how many times i died, i was just hungry as hell to learn and i got it down quick just because ive always wanted to drive stick. i never complained about not gettin it right, i just had fun learning it. it never crossed my mind though, on giving up. you'll get it down, just be more on the attack side. peace...
thanks guys for all the input.i've been driving around with my Z for the past two weeks.so far so good. I spent the first 2 days driving around in no traffic areas, and after that, i brought my Z to the real street..i was kinda scared tho, couple of stalls in the traffic, and i guess i really pissed off some ppl by blocking their ways or wutever...and after for like 2,3 days driving on the street,no more stalls.lol.for the uphill.i just give a bit more gas..no need to use hand brake for me wutsoever. as a matter of fact...driving a stick is not as hard as i think it is..:-) For now, i guess i would say, i can drive a stick.but it takes a long time for people to have good driving skills.i have a long way to go .lol.
P.S driving a stick in heavy traffic is not that bad... whenever i am in heavy traffic, i just take my time and practice my skills.lol
