Gonna pick up a z soon, i got some ?s
I looking for either a black or dark grey/silver Z, with black inter around the LA area in Cali. I was wondering what a good year is, and what are some good mods to start out with? Just let me know!
Im looking forward to this CAR and meeting alot of new z owners!
I'll help you out but as others have said every one of your questions can easily be answered by 5 minutes of searching. This forum has a wealth of information and the first thing a new member should learn is how to access it. Posting threads like this generally only get negative responses because they're so so general and even more common. Forgive the childish remarks, it just gets a little frustrating.
Anyways, I just recently went through the same process (didn't buy my Z in LA though despite the fact that I live there most of the year).
As for years, here's my opinion which I know is biased because I just came from a used car. I was SICK of all the baggage that came with used cars older than 3-4 years with questionable history. That being said I'm going to assume you're buying a car with either missing or incomplete service history.
2003 & 2004:
Unless you can find a good condition car with low miles and comprehensive maintenance records stay away. Too many new model issues and improperly maintained cars out there. Tire feathering being the big problem.
2005:
Good year, get a 2005 over a 2006.
2006:
DE motor 'upgraded' to "rev up" motor which had frequent oil consumption issues. There are many good 2006s out there but like I said I was done with the used car "shot-in-the-dark" crap.
2007:
"rev up" motor UPGRADED to HR which is a fantastic engine. Several transmission related recalls but generally well known and solvable.
2008:
Same as 2007 but with more of the little bugs worked out. No recalls/prominent issues I know of.
I ultimately decided to just suck it up and get a brand new 2008 enthusiast. Haven't had a single problem or regret since. The Z is a fantastic car and a lot of fun. As far as modification goes, just find a car in good condition within your budget and give yourself a year to get to know the car stock and ensure there's no preexisting issues waiting to pop up their ugly heads.
Good luck and remember... SEARCH FIRST if you can't find an answer within 15 minutes of searching THEN POST.
