New to 350z - Basic Questions
Hey guys. I decided to buy myself a graduation present the other day, and I went out and bought a used Nissan 350z. I paid $16,750 for a garage kept 2003 6spd w/ 20k. It looks like it's a brand new car!
I've got a few questions about my 350z. I know very little about cars. Anyways, any answers / advice about my questions below would be much appreciated.
1.) Did I pay a good price for the car or could I have done better?
2.) How do I know if I have xenon or halogen headlights? (and you thought I was kidding when I said I know very little about cars) • the low-beams appear to be xenon; however, the high-beams appear to be halogen.
3.) Why is there no glove box where most glove boxes tend to be? What is behind that area of the dashboard?
4.) Everything on this car is factory (which I actually prefer) and every option was purchased from the dealership by the original owner. If you were me, would you do anything to this car. If so, what? • The only thing that I have planned is to fix my high-beams so they aren't an ugly yellow when compared to my low-beams.
Thanks for reading. Looking forward to the replies.

3.it has a glove box, it's behind the passenger side seat.

1) Market is different depending on where you live, but looks like a sweet deal to me!
2) I'm pretty sure you can use your vin to find out that info.
3) Don't care ( Hi Tubbs!
)
4) I'm not you, I'd say do what you like. That's all that matters.

Sounds like you did just fine with the deal, and if you are pleased - that is all that really matters. Used stock Z's seem harder to find, especially when used prices are in the range of attainable of most anyone and then the second, third, fourth, fifth owners do not appreciate the already good looks of the Z and just screw it up. For me, I like the look when it stays close to stock - plus when everyone else mods the Z, a stock Z starts to stand out much or more. Please just make sure any future mods are tastefully done and complimentary to the cars already great looks. Enjoy your new toy!

Don't bother switching your highbeems to Xenon, they are halogen for a reason. A cheap HID kit takes too long for the lights to ignite taking away your ability to high beem or flash your lights. Hence the reason why most cars do not have bi-xenon. Cars that do, have a quick start system on the lights so they go bright instantly, it's part of the design of the bi-xenon systems. Simply adding a xenon kit for the high beems (which you will hardly ever use) is a stupid idea, do not do it.
If you are not really into modifying the car then don't. Light things like lowering springs and rims are easy and dramatically change the look of the car.
There is a flip lever on the back of the passenger seat so you can flip it forward and access the glove box. It's no big deal you will get used to it honestly.

Go here to figure out which model you have:

If you have no controls on steering wheel, it is a Base which means no HIDs. Any other model & you have HIDs.
If you have a manual, spend some quality time with it.

Congratz on the Z. I'd keep it stock for two reasons. 1) You don't know anything about cars, and 2), a stock Z is already a pretty nice car. Down the road you may want to consider doing some things, but I'd hold off for now.
Thanks for all of your replies. I know that my 350z is the Grand Touring simply because I have the original sales receipt.
After reading what 350z-Jim said, I've come to the conclusion that all 350z's have the bi-xenon system? Am I correct?
This may be a stupid question but rather than switching my high-beams to xenon, is it possible to purchase a replacement bulb that isn't as yellow as the factory bulb?

Nope, all enth. and up models have bi-xenon lights, unless you have an 07 or an 08 z which the base model comes equipped with them. And yes, it is possible to just get a brighter (white) bulb for your high beam halogens.
