Default buying a 2006 Z

Thinking about buying a 2006 6spd grand touring but I've heard about oil consumption issues with this MY and its made me hesitant on pulling the trigger. I am going to test drive the Z this weekend and I want to know what I should check before, during, and after the drive. Are there any 06 owners who can share some info about their car? Any other problems and solutions to them are greatly appreciated.

I have an 06 with 29k on the odo. So far, no problems. I dont really drive my car hard and most miles are highway, to and from work.

Some have issues, some dont. Goodluck.

what kind of miles are on the car???? the drive train warranty is 5 yr 60,000 miles and thats included ... although its a hassle, Nissans aware of it( but hey you'd get a completely new engine out of it ). I had a Black '06 and my friend still has his Black '06 which has been boosted most of its 34,000 mile life ( stock block ). After a couple weeks of owning it you'll know if you have one w/ an oil consumption prob.

There's no way I would buy a 2006 6mt - it's like russian roulette. Do you feel lucky?

My wife's 06 6mt doesn't burn a drop of oil. My 2006 burned a quart every 800 miles. One of the main reasons I got rid of it...

M7 2007 6mt with the HR engine does not burn a drop...

I have an 06 MT/ Had my engine replaced at 32K due to oil consumption. If I were you, I wouldn't take a chance with an 06 MT.

It has 29,XXX on the odo, from a used car lot. So if I buy this car and it has the oil issue, Nissan will replace the engine for me?

Thats why I've been very hesitant about buying this car. Is the 05 any better? I'd prefer an HR Z but the prices around here are still high > 26k for a used 07, which doesn't make sense to me since a new 370z starts at 30k. So thats why I'm looking at the 04-06 Z's.

lol, maybe I should. I've always liked the design of the Z32 and Z33, and I've always wanted to own one, but these issues concern me. Did you guys buy your Z knowing that your going to have to deal with these nuisances? Worth the trouble?

I'm not dead set on the 06 Z, thats why I asked about the 05. I'm looking at the 04-06. I was looking at the 06 because it's the best deal around here. Just looking for opinions of 06 Z drivers and any other Z owners.

The 35th annv. special edition ( which was made in 2005 ) had a "rev-up" engine in it which is the one that could burn oil ( only the annv. edition though ). Also BRAND NEW '08's are going for 22,500. I know b/c I just bought a brand new one for that!!!! check around.

To me I love my 06. When I bought it I did minimum research on Z's and luckily got a great model. Although a base model, over the 05 I have HID's and the better performing and looking 18" wheels standard.

No oil consumption issues and purchased the car without reading the TSB on oil consumption. I love my Redline 06. So sexy and makes me happy up til 7k then I have to shift.

I have an '06 Touring with currently 30,000km on it. I bought the car brand new and have not had one mechanical issue with the car - no oil consumption. I also took out an extended warranty on the vehicle.

I absolutely love this car.

Welcome to the forum. Basically if an 06 is going to be that much of a concern, either try an older model or a newer one. Still dealers trying to knock 350's out the door rock bottom now the 370's are out.

Went down to the dealer Sat., and he told me that someone just took it out for a test drive before I arrived. Didn't feel like waiting for the other guy, so I left. This was fine with me because I emailed the dealer inquring about the car earlier that week but never got any replies from him which didn't sit well with me. I've taken the advice of most of you guys here and expanded my search. Found a lot more better deals for 07 Z's, although they are located pretty far from me. I think its worth the drive to get a car I want.

I am wondering if you can tell the differences in trims of 07 Z's just from pictures because I feel as if the dealers are advertising some of the Z's wrong. I know the differences between trims but what/where should I look for to figure out what trim it is?
