Purchasing a Z. Is the Rev-up Motor worth it?
I've read a lot on this forum but one question still remains before I make a purchase decision later this week. I am considering two cars:
1. 2003 Enthusiast 6MT, 60k miles. Silverstone.
2. 2006 Enthusiast 6MT, 40k miles. White.
There is $3,000 difference between the two vehicles (both are being sold under book value) and I am wondering if the 300hp Rev-up motor in the 2006 is worth the extra cash since that is really the only main difference between the two.
The only other concern is the 2003 being the first model year had the first-year blues with trans issues, the tire feathering, etc.
I've wanted a 350Z since 2002 and have owned a 240sx with a SR20DET motor and a 300ZX TT so I am excited to own a Fairlady again.
Any help is appreciated. TIA.

Both of those years have had their fair share of problems.
2003:transmission,tire feathers, axle clicking
2006:the biggest thing OIL CONSUMPTION
I own a 2003 and have zero problems with it. Some 03's sneak through the cracks. That goes for 06's with oil consumption as well. You can never be to careful when buying one. The 2006 is revised somewhat from the 03. The best part is they are both enthusiast models. Personally i would stay away from the 06 unless you can get proof that the motor has been nissan certified or replaced. If that all checks out then jump on the newer model

Another thing is if you are buying it form dealer and you get the 06 you can get the extended warranty from Nissan. I have an 06 and no issues however if you do you can always get it replaced and whatever else goes wrong under the extended warranty.

You can get warranty through credit unions for cheap. The rev up isn't worth 3 grand, even The hr isn't worth 3 grand. If you plan on keeping it stock go with the rev up, if not use that 3 grand to mod.

No matter how you look at it the 06 is the better car. The revised trans, lower mileage, updated interior, bi xenons, and led tails. Also the oil consumption issues have either already been fixed or will not happen and mostly effected roadsters. Buy the 06 with confidence. I own one and would not trade it for anythibg less.

Thank you for the informational replies. I just checked out the 2006 and it is about as clean as they come. He is selling it to me for $16,500 so as long as the carfax comes out clean the car will be in my garage by the weekend.

you can always check with the dealer to see what service has been done to the car, I did that with mine before I bought it and it never had any problems with it so I got my 2006, then the next day the window motor went out lol go figure but it was fixed for free
