Default Little nervous about buying a used Z

Ive been reading up on the oil consumption issues and kinda leaves me a little nervous about buying a used one. It looks like there is nothing you can do about this until you buy the car and drive it and see what happens in a few thousand miles. And if it is consuming oil your s.o.l. because you tried to save money and buy a used one with no warranty. What do ya think? I could probably purchase one of those used car warranties or maybe a certified Nissan.

Suggestions

I believe the oil consumption issue only involves the manual transmission '06 models. The '05 35th anniversary manual transmission models might be affected but I'm not sure. All of the other years seem to be bulletproof.

At this point with a used Z, if it has oil consumption issues, the previous owner SHOULD have gotten it fixed. same goes for 03s tranny problems and tire feathering issues. Why not just get an 07+ and not have to deal with any of the BS?

Just make sure you get a nice used Z. Take it to a mechanic/know your seller

If reilability is your target buy a civic and call it a day. If you want a kick *** SPORTS CAR buy the z.

A used car is a used car and the Z is no different from other cars. It depends on so many factors including how the previous owner handled it. It is kind of a gamble.

Thx all!!!!! yea im just going to take the plunge. Your right with the previous owner should of had it done already regardless and ill just try to find service records if possible. With reliability a stock Z should not be compromised even if its a sport coupe.......not like its a 500hp monster out of the box ...so i still dont agree with buying a stock Z and having it blow a motor with no work done to it and say ......."Well its a sports car i had it coming" thats ridiculous all cars have their problems im just trying to avoid major issues screw everything else. I think buying used could save me some money and try to put that towards building the motor a little to handle some FI nothing crazy tho.............well i say that now as im sure you folks who have monster Z's out there did at one time lol.

thx again

Its not the car to leary of its the prior owner, just go on youtube and see all the young jerks doing donuts in the parking lot with 5000rpm clutch dumps.
Go into the oil thread and see how many cheap *** people use crap oil and filters and argue that oil is oil, and how about all those leases and rich kids who just dont care or do proper maintence on thier cars because they will trade out of it in two or three years.
Thats what I would be afraid of!!!!!!!
Get a car from one of the members here that takes care of thier ride, or an older person thats not out beating the snot out of the car at every redlight.

You should be happy to know that finding parts for the engine should be easy because this is Nissan's/Infiniti's #1 engine, it is in so many different cars.

Yea no doubt its been voted Top 10 best motors in the world i forget how many times.

Im not really that nervous anymore. Went to the local Nissan dealer and they said they could find one for me at a dealer auction 04-06 with less than 45k on it for around 14-18g's that comes with a warranty so that helps a little. Im figuring that its going to be some type of lease trade in so hopefully not modded and can show service records.

Now im just excited

I just purchased an 06 roadster. Every one I looked at was still covered by the powertrain warranty and my dealer said this is the warranty that will cover the engine swap if it is needed, not the 3yr/36,000 miles warranty. That may make you feel better. Mine has 26,000 miles on it so I still have lots of miles and 2 years on the powertrain warranty.
