Default 2003 350z Touring

hello everyone.
I've been trolling the forums and market place for a couple of months now trying to learn everything I can about this new platform. I just sold my eagle talon tsi awd to buy the z. There wasn't much more I could do with it and I felt that it was time for a change. I'm very much a noob to nissans and especially the 350z, but I am learning quickly. I am not new to cars though. Especially mitsubishi's, forced induction, and drag racing. My talon had 600awhp with a carbon fiber interior and nx widebody. I have tuned on everything from an safc II to the AEM standalone. I hope to be an asset to the forum with my knowledge of forced induction and tuning, as well as body work and anything else I can contribute. I built the talon from the ground up. Noone else has touched that car but me. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of you community and I will try to give back as much as I can. Oh and Merry Christmas ;-)

I'm guessing his comment was in reference to the level of rice on that Talon. I also had a DSM before, a 97 eclipse GST spyder. I have tons of respect for the 4g63t motor, but FWD sucked with that much power. I hope you enjoy your Z, I would say I like mine over any other sports car I have previously owned.

OMFG!!! PLEASE do NOT do that to your poor Z!!! I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're tastes in what looks good have matured since those pics were taken!!

I had a semi-riced out Neon R/T at one time, so i know there is life after rice.

That was also 10 years and two cars ago. Given the content of his cardomain page, i'm surprised no one has asked the OP his age yet.

My age should be posted in my about me page; if not I'm 26. Don't worry my taste has changed. That is why I sold the talon and bought the Z. I'm not into that scene really anymore. Remember though, RICE is an opininated word. That is why I don't care if you call it rice. 1) I don't own it anymore, and 2) because the majority of the modifications had purpose and weren't for show, and 3) Its was fast ;-). In addition I did all the work myself. I never took it to a shop, not even to tune it. So, in a sense I was proud at EVERYTHING I had done with it. Ok, maybe not the body kit, but you win some you lose some.

Bronzee--I may go FI, but I need to map out a goal first. If I want to go that route, I won't do it until all the supporting mods are there, so it may be awhile in the future.

Thanks everyone for their comments and welcoming me with open arms. Have a good one

Don't worry about the naysayers. Each to their own.

So what sort of FI might you go when ready?? T (a whopping big turbo), TT, or SC?? Very smart to do the supporting mods first.

--Either a single or a twin turbo. Believe it or not, I love turbo lag. There is no better feeling then your pedal on the floor, RPM's climbing, hearing that turbo spool up, and then getting sucked back into you seat. Plus, turbo's aren't parasitic. A supercharger uses power to make power (kinda counter productive IMHO), while a turbo takes a waste product (exhaust). Its almost like free hp haha... well maybe not free.

Where is Fort Polk?

--Thats what I said when I got my orders. Short answer; in the middle of nowhere. Its not bad, there just isn't anything around here. The local people call walmart "the mall" haha

You want turbo lag, but you don't want to to be "couter productive" by having "parasitic loss"?? What do you think turbo lag is?!?!? Take this thought over to the FI forum, and see what they have to say about all this. I'm pretty sure unless you have a roots blower, you aren't gonna get any significant parasitic loss from a SC. I have a roots blower, and it's still instant torque. Not alot compared to others, but enough for what i like (to each their own again). I'm sure there is some loss due to belt drag, but to me unless there is a point in the RPMs that the car feels less powerful then stock (which there isn't), then in my mind there is no loss!

I have a feeling you are gonna change your mind about "feeling fast" (enjoying the turbo build up), and choose to "be fast" (instant power of two smaller turbos or a good SC setup.) I would think having had a 600AWHP DSM, you would be to the point now that you'd be past having to have a F&F blow off valve, and makingg your neighbors three blocks away have to hear your turbo the size of youread spool up. lol

Like i said, to each their own, i just hope you decide what you want before you spend the money.

Are you serious? Turbo lag isn't parasitic loss. It is the time it takes the turbine to spool enough to create power. By parasitic, it infers that power is used to make power. Hence, a supercharger using torque from the crankshaft and using it to turn the supercharger pulley, instead of the torque being transferred to the transmission and then the wheels. Yes, it may be a small loss, before the extra power that supercharger produces kicks in, but it is still parasitic none the less. A turbo uses a waste product to create power. So in my mind, and due to the physics of its design, it doesn't "steal" power from the engine to make more.

Its fine to have your own opinion, but don't be so closed minded. I don't fall into the category of "having a F&F blowoff valve" just to make the sound. I could care less about what it sounds like as long as it does its job. As long as it prevents compressor surge, it could be silent. I'm not sure what type of person you are, but I never drove my car under boost. It was for the track. I didn't feel a need to show off. Yes, I love going fast, but I didn't need to prove it to every kid that acted like an a$$hole in their little supped up POS. In addition, if you want to talk about "being fast" and "feeling fast", I was just stating what I enjoy. Everyone knows that Torque, not horsepower, actually makes a car fast or not. Since, torque is a measurement of work, while horsepower is a measurement of change.

Like i said, to each their own, i just hope you decide what you want before you spend the money.
Thank you for your concern. I always plan out my goals before I spend money. I'm one of the ones that has to budget money to reach my goals. I don't have the means (nor the desire) to spend freely.
