Default First Z

Hey everyone, whats up.

In the next couple days here, i'm going to be signing the loan for my first Z. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited. Aside from all that, I just wanted to say hi. I've actually been lurking on the forums here for a while now, but never felt qualified to post because I didn't actually own a Z... So I figure that now that I'm just a few days away from owning one, I'll come out of lurking and join the club here.

So anyway, my name is James. I'm in the Detroit area...27... And about ready to climb into an '06 / Grey / Base. Car seem pretty solid all the way around. No major mechanical issues... a little typical road rash, but VERY minor as it is. Biggest thing i saw was on the interior, it looks like there was a couple places that the paint was starting to come up on like the trim pieces. I'm assuming i can just pick up any decent interior paint and touch it up... which i fully plan on doing. Other than that, anyone have any tips or things to look for?

And like i said, I just wanted to officially drop in and say hi.

I'd definitely have a qualified mechanic/dealer go over the car thoroughly. Be ready to walk away if there is anything fishy. Good luck with the purchase.

Ask for maintenance records, and have a mechanic take a look at it. How many miles are on the car??

Welcome to the boards, James.

The interior on the 350Z is pretty cheap, so peeling and scratches are common. Search around and you can find a few DIY projects to touch them up. If it is a manual transmission, make sure you check for tranny grinds and clutch wear. Ask if the transmission was ever replaced and get all service records. The VQ engines are pretty sound so just make sure it sounds good - no clicks or clunking.

Be sure to post pictures upon taking possession of the vehicle.

“Going to be signing” does not count. The keys must be in your hand. Sorry.

Thanks guys, and yeah, I have a few nissan dealerships around me. I'm definitely going to take it to one and have them give it the once over. But from what I've seen, heard, and felt so far... it looks like its all in all, pretty decent! The car has about ~55k on it. And from what i gather, there is a 60k warrantee on the cars ... which i'm kindof hoping that, that is the case, and that they're transferrable... Trans didn't grind... i even asked the seller if he's noticed any noise from trans... as thats one thing i've read on here that is a pretty normal issue... as to which i didn't hear any... and he said he han't heard any. Looks like the previous owner babied the car pretty well... And i'll definitely throw up pics when i get it.

2006 is an above average year for reliability. No known major problems. You will be fine. Unfortunately 60 month warranty expires 2011 you just do not know what month.

thats good to know that 06's were decently reliable. Only thing i'm put off by was the interior paint going. I'm assuming probably not, but does the dealer have any specific paint? ... or is this a time where i go to autozone?

The interior trim paint is pretty cheap, as mentioned above. That stuff practically rubs off. Get to know the forum and search for the DIY interior re-paint. I pulled my arm rest off and cleaned them really well, hit em up with 3 coats of dupli color primer and 4 coats of dupli color matte black trim pain. voila, good as new.

update with pics when you get the car

^ it's not that it's cheap....it's just a wierd satin rubber paint they decided to use...mine was almost flawless...mind u it was an 08 when I bought it a year ago...but if I'm conciencious when I make contact with it...it's totally fine...

Doesn't change the fact that I think whatever they painted the inner door handles with is a complete gheyfest! Like everyone said it's stupid easy to paint and make it bullet proof...but other than that...compared to other cars I think the 350 interior is a actually kinda nice for a sports car...provided it's price range...

Hey thanks everyone... I really appreciate the welcome and the tips! Wicked awesome of you all!

And verdict, yeah, I haven't had too much time to get in some good pics.. however the previous owner fairlady badged it. I thought it was cool. Snapped a quick pic of that

Ah, good chance it was probably modded at one point then. I thought mine was stock until i put in a nav unit and discovered someone already had a ground set up for me (already had a nav unit before me, which would explain the scratches on the roof )

From what i can tell, I cant see any signs of modding. There is a ipod/iphone input on the radio, so aside from that and the fairlady badge, I dont really see any other signs of modding. Unless they kept all the OEM parts and just swapped them back in when the owner turned it in (which is possible), then I dont see anything that shows modding. But i'll keep an eye out.
