With less than 2000 dollars, you can get an SRT-4 into the 12's. Even with FI on the Z, the car is a high 12 second / low 13 second car. Underneath the dodge exterior is a car that can easily beat a Z any day of the week. It just seems that many Z owners DO feel like they have an inferiority complex when a 20k dodge can equal or even better their 27-35k cars. You can say all you want, its ugly, its a dodge, its cheap, but at the end of the day, when that 20k dodge with hood scoop and big wing beats you, you'll be feeling

If anything, I have nothing but respect for those little neons. I just wish I could find one in NYC late at night so I can see how quick they really are!

^^ I agree with this guy. Some of you people need to quit being such fanboys. The SRT-4 is indeed capable of beating a Z, and vice-versa. Of course I'd have to say the Z still has a slight edge. Anyways, welcome on board The SRT-4 is a nice car, just ignore the fanboys.

I agree that the SRT4 can probably easily beat the Z in straight line performance but, if I want a drag car I would still have my pro-street stang. I think that the Z is an overall better package.

for under $20K you can have a used LS1 with some mods & run 12s...........

I actually LIKE Neons. I believe his race since these damn Neons accelerate about the same as the 350z.

Welcome to the forum & please realize our cars have very similar straight line performance & you might run into a better driver & lose one of these days.

SRT-4's are turbocharged at 230 horse. THe 350Z is 287 non turbo. So the Z is definatly faster off the line cause no turbo lag. So i think the man is lieing. He just wishes he spent 8 g's more and got a real car. Not no neon.

Aren't SRT-4s AWD? That would explain the their ability to launch well. Also supercharged cars are far easier to mod effectively.
I wouldnt drive a nean but thats personal and dosen't mean its not a "real car."

yeah, but a used car is not under warranty, like the neon which is covered under the the 7yr/70k powertrain warranty dodge offers. something goes wrong on an LS1, $$. Break something on the new neon, dealer fixes it. And the neon has the added advantage (could be disadvantage in performance aspect) of FWD, which make it practical for all-season driving.

Everyone knows the SRT-4 is underrated, and the HP rating that it has is the power it puts out at the WHEELS, not at the crank like the Z. So if you want to compare the numbers to the wheels...

350z - 235-245 whp
Neon - 230 whp

Neon = 400 lb weight advantage = winner

I think the neon is every bit as real as any car out there. I hope you of all people will go out, find an SRT-4 to race and get your *** handed by him... maybe you'll think... "damn i could have saved 8 grand and bought something faster". The Neon isn't much of a looker, but it isn't an Aztec or a PT cruiser either.

if you want to maximize performance/$ buy a used car and invest far less than the cost of an srt and make it much faster.

the savings in buying a used car would far outweigh the money having a warranty would save you. it comes down to what you want. obviously a new car has lots of appeal for different reasons. but if all you want is the most performance/money buying a used car is wiser than buying a $20k+ fwd dodge that runs 13.9 sec 1/4 mile.

Aggression? I think not.

Skepticism and retort, I think so.
Ummm...Actually I hate to break it to you but the SRT IS faster than a stock Z.....

Oh and p.s......... We dont have the fastest production cars in the world...Actually for a "SPORTS" car the Zis pretty damn SLOW in stock form...

how can you say the z is slow? 0-60 in 5.4, high 13's 1/4 mile with a good driver...there's only a handful of cars in our price range that can touch that. not saying it's faster than the srt but cmon give credit where credit is due. the car is NOT slow.

There is a neon here in town that ran a 14.01 at the track. All stock at 3300ft above sea level. My Z here is like 14.7.
