as for the topic, get the car checked for frame damage, it might be in your benefit to total it, and purchase another one, depending on the damage

I'm no expert, but using some common sense for parts costs and estimated value of your car, here's my thinking -

Assuming you only have to replace driver fender, hood, windshield, radiator, fan, assorted hoses, coolant, hood, and a respray of hood and fender, you might barely get away without it being totalled - but the labor could put you over the top. If it is totalled and you don't mind some work yourself, it might be worth buying back after it's totalled.

However, if you may have more damage - front bumper, core support, front frame, front of the engine/pulleys, etc. You probably need to be praying for it to get totalled so you can walk away.

If it were me, I would just hope it was totaled.. cars never tend to be the same after a wreck, if they don't end up totaling it make sure you fine a good body shop /mechanic to fix things up. Research shops in your area, so it's done right the first time

C5, let's take this to PM. This discussion has derailed this thread pretty badly. Cleaning up the OT posts.

Wow. I dont understand how so many people crash their cars... I drive like a maniac, but I ALWAYS maintain distance from other cars. If I'm going 120 on the freeway there will never be a car in front of me. How can you posibbly blame a truck for this..

Update. The orange Z was declared a total loss. Bought another Z last month. This one is black and with 90k miles on it.

Clutch was slipping. So tomorrow morning it goes to the shop for a new clutch kit and new flywheel.

Car is on 20'' wheels right now. Had some paint chipping areas on the rear bumper that i sanded down and repainted.

I would suggest replacing the wheels. I would've stayed with an S2000, it's way more fun.

Really curious why you would buy something with mechanical issues from the get go Unless your getting it for a steal.

Well this Z was in the hands of somebody who did not take care of the vehicle. it has been abused hard. riced out with racing stickers. smoked inside of. never washed or cleaned. i might not have gotten it for the best price. But i figured i would take it of his hands. Take the ugly stickers off. replace everything that was held together with zip ties. clean it out. put in a brand new clutch and flywheel and take a look at the engine.

The way i look at it is that i saved the Z from being ran to the ground. and when i'm done with it hopefully someone else will get to enjoy this Z after me with no mechanical problems.

Got the car back from the shop today with a new clutch kit. It's running strong. replaced all the fluids.

And yes. The S2000 was way more fun to me. But i was tired of the ragtop. the tiny cabin. Was time for me to move on to something more roomy.

If it's a base model be careful not going sideways cause its gonna get ugly fast.
