First off, I have an '06 so I can only speak for that model year. I've owned many vehicles with a standard transmission. The "chattering" you hear is normal. Often, when the clutch is replaced, some owners will upgrade to a lightweight flywheel for whats been reported as a more aggressive clutch performance. This lightweight flywheel has a much more pronounced chatter. I'm not sure if you're referring to the sound of the throw-out bearing in this post, but the sound of that is normal and the way you've described it sounds normal also.

The transmission whine- I have it too. I've heard it with other Z33s. Some more pronounced than others. That sound reminds me of what the motor would sound like with a belt driven supercharger and I like it a lot. I hear the whine at lower rpms and them the wail from the exhaust with that signature 350Z/G35 note is one of the many things that are awesome with these cars. Again, normal.

Feel free to have your vehicle inspected by a professional and preferably someone that knows your make/model vehicle well. Like I said above, those two characteristics are some of the many things I dig with this car...

My Z has the same issue. Nothing to worry about tho. Our trans are noisy. You'll get used to it.

Thanks for the response, the dealer seems to think I need a new transmission after I let them do the multi point inspection. They said the shaft is just spinning basically, of course they did not take it out to look at it or probably did not even put it on a lift. Not sure if this is the problem or if the dealer is trying to make money

Turns out it was the transmission. I found a newer low mileage one and replaced mine with it. Both the chatter and whine is now gone.

Thanks for the feedback
