Default Out of an 8 into a Z

Hello All!

Picked up a 07 Touring 6 speed bone stock yesterday with 25,800 miles on it. I sold an 05 RX-8 in perfect condition 32,000 miles to get into the Z cause as you know the 8 is too anemic. I do have a question - I notice that while your getting into it, the revs do not seem to come down while shifting - is that normal? Any help would be appreciated. I will post pics soon.

I had that problem when I first got the Z. The clutch engages and disengages at a very high pedal height, as in close to you versus the floor. Try getting off the gas pedal earlier when compared to depressing the clutch when you shift. The heavy flywheel also doesn't help.

Thanks! I will try your methods. This Z just blows away the 8!! Love it!

Welcome and congrats!

9K rpm in no problem for rotaries, just as long as the oil level/metering valve are ok.

I miss my '85 Rx7 GSL-SE, I revved that engine way past 9K lol, but mine was 'built'/ and with a street port.

Do you have a 3000gT-VR4 or the Galant VR4?

I've always liked the 8's and would probably prefer it over the Z because I don't care for hp/tq... just look and I think they look great.

Welcome and congrats.

Sweet! They are a PITA to work on but even mild tuned ones move their 4000lbs mass pretty quickly.

I came from an 8 as well. Mine was an 04 AT tho. My Z is an 08 MT Base, and for me the major difference(besides the ones mentioned) is that the Z feels more raw to me. I drove an 09 RX8 that had the Recaros and nicer interior. My gf and I took it for a lil test drive around a remote neighborhood. We went up around a bend and then then easily doubled the speed coming back. She couldn't tell the difference in speed... to tell the truth, if I hadn't looked at the speedo-I wouldn't have either! The RX8 feels "safer" to me, but Zs are really safe too. I'd like to have another 8 as a track car some day. That'll be AFTER I figure out how to drive 2+ cars at once!

CongratZ on the HR. Keep her in good shape!
