The previous owner(s) literally must have went out of their way to dig their keys into the door every time they opened the door. On top of that, the aftermarket clutch was already slipping with only 30k miles on it and the 2nd gear synchro was shot (on a cd009 tranny might I add). It may have been $13.4k, but for a 116k mile car that didn't even have the timing belt/chain changed.... I passed and went home. There's one more by my office and I may check it out tomorrow, but after today's MASSIVE disappointment I may just give up until the summer lol
Was the previous owner a chick?

Am I teh only one wondering why the Z is on DD when the Subi is AWD? I would part out the Subi and mod the Z. I guess I don't know your situation though.

GratZ on actually researching and knowing what you're talking about.

Must have been... or someone who was insanely bad at driving a manual. I've never felt a clutch slip so badly in my life haha.

I think my OP may have thrown you off. The subie is my DD/winter-time car and the Z will be used mostly on weekends and occasionally driven to work to change things up. I will be driving to connecticut tomorrow to pick up the Z, which I will be able to fix-up over the winter during my days off. As of now, I plan on fixing the interior and throwing on a new clutch, then when the summer time comes I will start doing my driver mods on the track. Seeing as I come from an AWD car that grips around all corners and conditions, I really want to see what drifting is like. Even though I've done tons of research before purchasing the Z, I still have much to learn. My low post count is pretty indicative of the fact that I like to lurk for information instead of asking the same questions that other people have previously

You'll be getting through quite a few more tanks of gas in the near future. Nothing but fun aren't they?

The Z is definitely a fun platform. Despite the fact that it has less power than my 350whp AWD WRX, I have a LOT more fun driving it due to the RWD and roaring sound of six cylinders pumping out such an amazing note. Even though the stock exhaust sounds amazing as is, I'm dying to get the ART pipes and motordyne tdx2 exhaust (with an Osiris tune, of course) to really waken it up. Just going to play the waiting game in hopes of finding them slightly used before the summer hits. Now that I have a better feel of how the Z handles, I've finalized my mod list for the next year or two. Just need to finish paying it off first.

That's why I'm going for the ART + TDX2 combo I have heard it in person and it sounds very tame while cruising, but loud when you want it to be. It's simply amazing.

P.S. It's also a nice "up yours" to those prius owners

So here's another update... after being pulled over several times for a "loud exhaust", I threw the Z onto a lift to look at the exhaust carefully. It looks like one of the previous ricers (err... I mean owners) decided to do a resonator delete and hacked up the axle back in some funky way Definitely explains why the exhaust would pop and rasp when I rev'd it in neutral...

Seeing as I get complaints about it as it, I guess I won't be doing the tdx2 unless I want to collect tickets on a daily basis. Would the ART pipes be enough to calm the rasp or would I be better off buying a used OEM catback (minus the y-pipe) off the classifieds? I tried searching the forums and didn't find any conclusive answer.

EDIT:
Talked to Tony for a bit (he's a real swell guy). He reminded me that messing with the cats would make matters worse for me, so I'm going to stick with a catback. So I'm going to either go with OEM or the tdx2 catback, which I'll have loads of fun keeping it quiet as I coast past cops in neutral. Kinda scared to do the latter since cops around me are "smart" enough to know that OEM exhausts aren't shiny and beautiful like the motordyne unit

Dude where do you live that you are getting pulled over for an exhaust so often? I see you said the southern end of NY but where? Do they have nothing better to do? Are you driving like a douche? I don't mean that last question to be personal, but I noticed that cops tend to NOT pull people over for loud exhausts unless they are doing other things too.

No offense taken man. I never go WOT around town, obey all speed limits, and stop at lights even if I think I have a chance to beat it before it goes red. I'm thinking it's just their time of the month (to meet quotas, not... that) and luckily I got them to check out the exhaust to prove it was OEM(ish). I'm in orange county, aka 40+ minutes from NYC.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that my car is still on transit plates. Figured I'd wait to register it since I only have another week to drive it and I need to pay the sales tax when registering it since I purchased it for straight up cash out-of-state.

Gotcha. Good luck with everything man. I had just a catback on my Z and it was plenty loud, never had an issue with cops.

That said I can't stand NY and their DOT rules. I actually got a few tickets during my time in NY state, which I paid promptly with no issues. Well then I get a letter from them saying that I since I went over XX points in their state I have to pay another 300 bucks or else I won't be allowed to drive in their state anymore. Oh darn. Needless to say they never got that 300 bucks, they never will and I will keep my old NY plates for fun. **** state.

Congrats man.

What part of Orange County do you live in? My 03 G coupe was loud but I never got hassled (the NYS troopers usually targeted the Hondas).

Danke! It's funny that you mention that... one of those rice rockets floored it past me (or at least I think he was... hondas barely go faster when you push the pedal down more). His exhaust was a loud and terrible sounding fartcan, but the cop went for me instead. Probably something to do with the fact that I'm in my early 20's and I have an in-transit plate on my car still I'm in the goshen/chester area, where cops are just looking to nail you for anything including +1mph over the 30mph city limit. God forbid they don't have their donuts before you pass them casually...

I've been talking to Tony about how to quiet it down and the only options I seem to have are fab'ing an intake silencer or driving reeeally careful around town, which I think I could live with... I might even be able to acquire a PBA card from my family-friend/cop, so that'll make things easier. I would also paint the tips black so cops can't see them as easily. I'll ask about the XYZ pipe with HFC though; never noticed those on the site before. *EDIT* The HFC's cost another $300 and won't quiet the exhaust by much, sooo I may skip them. *EDIT*

On a side note, does anyone have a decibel meter to read how loud the tdx2 is? I've searched the forums (350z, g35, etc etc) and found numbers ranging from 86-115, both of which are either close or past being legal.

I figured you either live in Tuxedo or Goshen. Are there many z's in the area or is it still full of Hondas, wrx's, and evo's?

People look at my Z like it's a ferrari, that's how rare they are to see around this area haha. It's like 75% hondas, 15% evos, and 10% subies of all trims. Dam hondas ruin all of our fun...

Thanks!

After driving the Z for 2 weeks, my intial modification list changed almost entirely. NY isn't very mod-friendly and it'd be hard to hide a twin turbo kit from the authorities here, so for now I'm going to plan on:
1) wheels - possibly te37 (or varrstoen es2 since I want to drift) in white
2) suspension - PBM coilovers and a larger rear sway bar (I hate understeer)
3) fixing the interior/exterior blemishes (button panels are scratched and front bumper had some contact with a pole or something)
4) RJM pedal mod - stock clutch engagement makes me sad in the pants

As for dealers/vendors, I'm not really sure who I'm going to, but thankfully I have all winter to decide and scour the classifieds here for second-hand parts. My Z is off the road since the icy/snowy weather is starting to kick in, so I'll mostly focus on saving until february.
