Default New to Z, Old Car was 307WHP Tiburon

Hello all, just dropping in to introduce myself. I have been lurking the site for while now but never posted. I bought a 2006 a few weeks ago with 77K miles on her. Honestly I plan to keep this one stock. I am a bit older and broke.

I have been there and done that with modding. Just plan on regular maintenance and driving.

Anywho, last car 2005 Hyundai Tiburon, modded to hell.

Low Comp 8.8:1 built motor, Ross Racing pistons, polished heads
Roots mp90 SC, 12PSI, Liquid to Air cooler
ALcohol injection
I/H/E, flywheel, clutch, suspension, Solid motor mounts, + ton of other goodies

I agree, the Z is very nice. The Tiburon was fun and would run mid-high 12s with slicks, but I didn't want anything FWD again. Sure the Z is down on power, but the RWD and the awesome handling makes it very fun.

The Tib was a 5spd MT, and the Z is the base 6spd which is nice. The Tib was barely street able at the point I was finished.

After selling the Tiburon for a few years I only had a couple different bikes. Recently found myself more and more needing another car so I bought the Z.

Looks great! Are you positive it's an 06 though? It has an HR (2007-08) hood on it... Maybe the previous owner had the stock 06 hood replaced or damage was done to it. Either way, Looks really good!

^Car looks nice! When I first saw the pic I thought "HR" also (hood and exact V2 wheels that came stock on mine). Hopefully it is an '07.

Thanks,

Yes I am positive its an 2006, I noticed the hood was newer version when I picked it up too. I did not see any crash reports for it though. It led me to believe the previous owner just swapped it out. I bought it from a local dealer. Everything is very clean on the car and under the hood is immaculate.

There are just some minor scuffs on the rims and the headlights had a bit of oxidation which I buffed off.

One of my friends owns a orange 08 I believe. He said swapping the hoods was popular and relatively cheap . I am not sure if the statement was completely accurate or not, being I never owned any incarnation of a Z before.

Car looks "off". It's got an early (pre-'06) nose/grille, but a late ('07>) hood. Did you check for collision damage/history?

Yes, there were no reported collisions. Clear title.

Its quite possible (superficial) since nothing has been reported and no collision repair was listed. All the mileage, registrations etc check out too.

Other than that, it handles great and runs great. Clutch is very nice no slippage, no odd noise from the flywheel/tranny, suspension, steering. No engine ticks, detonation etc.

I will just need to change out the drive belts soon and get some new tires in a few thousand miles, regular maintenance stuff. I have read the threads about oil consumption for the 06s, haven't noticed/smelled/seen anything in the few weeks I have had it. Interior is good, little bit of that rubberized coating on the center console rubbing. Nothing unexpected for a 7 year old car I guess is where I am getting at.

The tib had horrible oil consumption, the ross racing piston rings had pretty good blow by, well, more like blow out.

Anyways, thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been on many different boards in the past. No need to worry about me not using the search function.

I forgot to ask you, single or dual intakes? That will clear up DE or HR.

I thought the tiburon gt v6 had a 6 speed? I always wanted one or a toyota celica gts in 7th grade because of need for speed underground. Then I fell in love with the Z, S2000 and RX8

They sold the GTs V6 in all trannies. From my time around with the Tib the 5 speed was rock solid, the 6 spd actually had some issues with failures and higher power.
