I just purchased a 2003 Z that is in rough shape. I joined another 350z forum...... it seems less active. So I am here
I am new to imports but not to cars. I have a couple Mustangs and Lightning.
Here are the issues.
mechanical issues:
Pretty low oil pressure (according to the dummy guage)
Knock on startup (probably timing chain rattle) (pn 13070-7Y000????)
going into third it tends to grind.....
Fuel in oil
Tps sensors don't work
Random misfires
Needs tires
Brake pads are getting there
Electrical:
Stereo won't turn off (aftermarket w/ sub and amp). I have to unhook the battery ever time I stop.
Cosmetic:
Front bumper(aftermarket) is held on by zip ties and is cracked beyond repair. I have a stock one already to go on but its black and the car is white.
Rear bumper is silver.
Interior has mold spores growing on the leather seats.
Missing interior pieces
Rear quarter panel has been repaired half assed. They welded a new piece on and just threw bondo over it....... at least the weld looks OK Lol.
Has nismo badges and license plate frame.
Plasti dip

Battle plan pull the stereo stuff out and put the head unit in my truck. Put a stock replacement in and sort through the wiring issues.
Compression test, plugs, and oil change. Possibly just do the tensioner repair right away.
Pull off the front bumper and put the black one on, remove nismo stuff and plastic dip.
Once I find out the compression I'll make more long term plans. (May trade for a galaxies)
Can the tensioner issue cause a low oil pressure issue. Obviously low oil pressure can cause a tensioner not to work but from my googling an oil pump failure isn't common.
That being said Idk how high this car has reved..... Lol
Long term concerns bearings, fuel injector issues, ring landings, oil pump.
Car has 140k on the clock.
Paid 350 for the head unit..... it came with a free car.
