Default Journey to the 350z

Want to start out by giving a big thanks to the people on this forum and everyone who has dedicated time and knowledge to make the site what it is today. It has helped a ton finalizing decisions, preparing for what to come, and just seeing the amazing work people have done over the years. After years of looking, researching and being in a position to be able to buy the specific specifications in the Z, finally executed on a purchase, a 2007 350z Enthusiast with 12.1k miles.

After an extensive amount of searching and inquires, a Z that went far beyond expectations finally appeared. Inquired about it immediately to obtain further information and pictures on it, and immediately put a deposit down on the car. Working with the guys at the dealership was effortless, and they were actually willing to communicate over email and text without any hassle. The problem came after, deciding on to transport the vehicle or make a trip down there and drive it back. After researching different transportation options and reading reviews, decided to drive down there and pick it up (even though that was additional miles on the car). Luckily a friend was willing to make the trip so this prevented the need for and plane ticket and a one hundred mile+ Uber ride the rest of the way.

At first the drive was easy, friend had the first four and a half hours, and I had the next. At this point it was dark out, and we were in an unfamiliar location. The drive didn’t become sketch until entering Kansas, which was full of tall grass, trees and country roads. First weird situation was encountering a baby dear, but I was conveniently flashing the lights on and off which caused the baby deer to run off. Not sure if this was luck, or a new way to prevent deer’s getting “trapped in headlights”. After this happened, I started to ponder the thought about the situation and if this could be used as a defense mechanism. Also started to think about how I luckily never had an extreme close call like this before. While these thoughts crossed my mind, a wolf runs infront of the car out of the tall grass, and I swerved the opposite direction it was running in. Luckily we missed it by the hairs of its tail, and right after friend jumps up and screams “I know that wasn’t a troll swerve”.

After that eventful situation with adrenaline pumping through our vanes, we continued on with the trip. Noticed his car had 2 bars of gas left so I asked him how far we had, since the gas light just turned on as well. He stated we were fine and to keep driving. Since I have a newer model of his car, I figured we had about 33 miles left until on empty. I start shifting through the menus and noticed it had miles left until empty reading. TEN MILES LEFT, telling him to find the closest gas station immediately. One being at the next exit, but google claimed it was closed. It being 2019 and all, we figured go to the pump, slide a card, pump the gas and be on our way. NO, this place had tape all over the card readers! Looking for the next nearest place, 10 miles away. Would we be able to make that? We had to take the chance, for we were in the middle of nowhere, in Kansas, which apparently does not make gas stations very accessible! Driving down another sketch road, someone riding our tail end, we fortunately made it there with 3 miles left. We encountered one giant downhill which probably saved us.

After the eventful trip there, we were at the dealership at opening, and within twenty minutes, was in my dream car. Riding back didn’t even feel cumbersome at all, from the joy of riding on twisties, the sound of the car, the way it hugs/grips the road, stiff steering wheel, just everything about the car put a huge grin on your face.
