Default Question about when gears change in an automatic 2004 350..

Whenever I’m trying to accelerate at low speeds sometimes the tachometer shoots up to 3rd gear and I can hear a sort of clunk sound. Also while I’m driving sometimes the tachometer revs up and down between 2nd and 3rd gear kind of rapidly for a few seconds. I’m new to cars and I’m wondering if anyone could help me with what this could be

- Have you checked fluid level?

- Assuming fluid level is fine, would take it to a shop that can read your DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes or just "codes"). If there's internal trouble looming, good chance the car will throw a code and can help you in the right direction.

- Assuming both fluids good and no codes, next step is trans shop. They can do a few checks and it might be a control module, torque convertor, or worst case, something going funky internally.

Okay thank you very much I’ll be sure to try and get it to a shop as soon as I can to see if I can see what’s wrong. Hopefully it is nothing too bad . This was very helpful thanks again

I have to ask...are you looking at the gear indicator or tach?
