I disagree. I had a chance to see a Nismo Z and a Honda CR side by side and IMO the S2K CR is better built in fit and finish, the interior feels more solid with higher quality materials, exterior looks a lot better all around in person (- rice factor) and the S2K just seemed like the more series track car performance wise. For a guy who sold his S2K first and kept his Z, I really like the CR much better than the NISMO. The NISMO doesn't really impress me at all.

Having owned a S2000 and several Z's including the Nismo Z I'll comment. I think both are well put together. While I appreciate the S2000 there is no way I'd take one over my Nismo Z. The Nismo Z looks much better than pics show and to get the performance of the Z the S2000 CR has to be driven at 9/10ths. Otherwise it is like driving our Miata. The S2000 CR would be a great track car but so would the Nismo Z. The S2000 CR would not make a good daily driver while the Nismo Z will work. Even at 760 lbs. more the Nismo Z was quicker on the tight course they tested on and on a longer track the Nismo Z would be even quicker. Both are great cars.

Having owned both at one point myself I agree with your second and last sentence. I guess I'm the only person on this board who really thinks the NISMO Z is overrated. Things I hate about the NISMO:
  • Hate the seats. Reminds me of the 93-97 Honda Del Sol seats and the material evokes the crappy water proof stuff they use to put in the early Xterras.
  • Sideskirts and wheels are beautiful but that rear is worse in person than in the pics. IMO it breaks the natural lines of the 350Z.
  • Interior still feels as cheap as ever. You would think a special edition Z they would have done a better job.
For the price I would much rather have a fully loaded GT 350Z

Honda will always have a better fit and finish than a Nissan IMO, but look wise, the CR is just not it. From the color, to the wing..i just think it's too much and doesn't give a more grown up appeal. Maybe because the s2k is small as it is and adding spoilers on it just looks huge.

Edit.. never seen a CR in person though so maybe it would be different. i can't say.

I was a little worried about the rear end of the Nismo Z but once I saw it in person I was quite happy with the look. A friend at work said it best. "That car looks pissed off!". IMHO the rear wing of the S2000CR looks horrible and definetly added on. The Nismo Z rear wing looks Porsche-like to me. Which is not a bad thing IMHO. The Nismo Z aero parts do work and at speeds as low as 70 mph. Read the 240Z Aero test thread here. I don't think you can go wrong with either car. I am a Z fan however.

I agree on one point the spoiler on the CR is as much as an eyesore as the rear end of the NISMO was to me. I had my doubts about the CRs aero kit but it was much better IMO in person. I was a big fan of the Suzuka blue so the color is right up my alley. With the hard top on I think the CR is one sick car. Don't get me wrong guys between the 2 cars I kept my Z first, but btw the two special edition cars I more in the Honda camp.

Basicly the S2000 is all about maintaining speed thru the corner because it has no low end torque and the NISMO is a torque monster by comparison.

Default Road & Track: Nismo 350Z favored over Honda S2000CR

Nice little write-up about both cars. In the end, the Z was the preferred choice and they actually managed to get the Z to trap 13s in the 1/4. Has anyone read it? I always said I enjoyed R&T more than other mags.

Either the new R&T or Motor Trend has a great article on the GTR too. It's headline is Corvette Killer with a pic of the GTR.

I read it yesterday. The numbers are very close for both cars, but the S has no AC or radio.

in addition to this...the s2k beat the z on braking distance from 100-0 by like 10 ft...this is not a regular brake for the z, this is with Brembo...hard to believe but proven...

Car & Driver has a nice write-up on the GT-R in the current issue, with more performance articles promised in an upcoming issue. They are guessing pricing closer to $85k by the time it hits America! Ouch!

It's not like Brembos include a drag shute or retro rockets.

I would expect the S2000 to brake in shorter distances given its weight advantage.
