what too buy
Hey guys
I have been watching the forums for some time but realy have not posted. About 6 months ago I was going to pick up a 07 nismo. because of money issues i decided to hold off. The dealer still has it and is willing to let it go for 34-35k. My question is if you were going to do work to a car such as medium engine mods some drivetrain mods and then some inside work Would u spend the extra money on a nismo or do I go for a lower end model and work from there. The only big advantage to the nismo is the extra support and welding too the frame. Thanks for all the help I know I will recive now and in the future. When it comes to the mecanics of cars I am new.

Sorry about not being exact on my plans for what I am looking to build the car for. I am looking to have the car built more for time attack stuff. Straight and fast is just like bad sex. It gets boring and you do't want to do it anymore. So I guess the nismo it is. Thanks for the fast response.

I'd get the Nismo as opposed to a lower model. With the chasis reinforcements and aero kit, I would say this is a better model to start with. The main things that are going to limit you as far as tuning would be the same on all '07 and newer models. So unless you were planing on buying a used '06 or older, I'd take the Nismo for the coolness factor.
Pretty much the only things you are going to be able to do for any '07 and newer model (including the Nismo) are suspension, intakes (which probably won't provide any gains and may even lose hp), hfc's or test pipes, exhaust, clutch/flywheel, different final drive, and LSD.
An ECU reflash is coming. Turbo's (and maybe superchargers) are coming. There is just not a whole lot available for the HR engine yet. There's a ton of things available for the older DE engines, however, the HR engine has proven to be better than a mildly tuned DE engine.
Logic would dictate that the Nismo Z is going to be the better car to start with. It's got the reinforced chasis (welds, extra bracing, and the chasis dampeners) as well as a wind-tunnel tested and proven aero kit. But the best way for you to decide if it's worth the extra money is to find out how much you would pay for a "lower" model Z and then find out how much it would be for an effective aero kit (c-west, top secret, ings, etc), larger wheels, etc. If you look hard enough and contact some of the sponsors (such as mynismo.com, thenismoshop.com, and z1auto.com), you will find that you can buy many of the Nismo "exclusive" parts. Also, if you're going to do stuff like time attack, you might be putting in a roll cage. So the extra welds might not be of any benefit. All this will let you know which would be a better base to start building from.
