Default Did I just kick my car in the *****?

I was doing about 80 on the highway in 5th gear. And then I did the O crap exit is right there, 3 lane change. So I went to throw it into 4th quickly and I accidently hit 2nd . When I started to let the clutch out it hit about 5000 RPM (only half/quarter engaged) and I realized I was in the wrong gear, so I put it back in and switched to 4th.

Did I do any damage to my engine?

P.S. please spare me the fact that I'm an idiot. I seroulsy thought I was going to cry. I was like O no. All I could picture was the engine picture in Forza 2 turning yellow!

You hit 5000 RPM.

Redline is 7500 RPM.

I think you're fine.

The engine could care less what gear you are in.

Yea but I was doing about 80. I think the redline in MPH for 2nd is roughly 70. So had I let off the clutch all the way I could have theoreticly been past the redline, causing damage to the engine. I guess since I didn't let the revs go past 5000 it doesn't matter, but it scared the bagebous out of me when I saw my tach needle shoot up in like .00000001 of a second with the clutch a quarter of the way out

i did something similar in my S2000, almost exactly. it was fine. it all comes down to how high the revs went, and how quickly/how much you engaged the clutch. the engine could be damaged not only by an actual mechanical over rev, but also by the rapid and violent acceleration from, say, 3200 rpm to just over 5000. but it's probably fine, if it only jumped like 2000 rpm and never went close to redline. if you get any smoking or wierd tapping sounds...hmm....
