Default #0046 got cracked up, might not make it.

I was driving home from a job interview today (not unemployed just trying to move up) on 610N about to cross I10 headed North (Houston, TX) and traffic has slowed to a crawl as it always does at this point. I'm stopped, in first gear, foot on brake. I'm fiddling with my iPod interface on my new head unit and keeping half an eye on the guy in front of me to see when I can go. Just about the time I choose "Rob Zombie" from the menu and glance up at the guy in front of me I hear ...

SCKREEEECHHH!!!!

I think "aww, sh..." and then I feel the impact. Never saw it comin'

She was doing 35-40 when he she hit. I was rocked so hard I got double vision and then the car hit the car in front of me which caused me to be flung into the seatbelt.

I pull over, the guy in front pulls over and she pulls over. They both come running up to check on me and I'm dazed, I mean a bit out of it. I've been in a fight or two in my life and I've had some nasty spills on skateboards, skis, motorcycles and a few automobile collisions but, this was a new level of "huh?" for me.

After a few minutes I was able to get out on my feet and look at the damage.

The back, up to the doors, is a nightmare, the exhaust pipes are bent, the hatch is FUBAR, the fenders are bent into both wheels (not tires, wheels) and the front (where I was pushed into the guy in front of me) is cracked up.

I took it to my body guy and he isn't sure that the frame isn't bent but he said it looks repairable.

Oh, yeah, I was just getting ready to make my first payment on it. Haven't had the car 5 weeks and some chick on her "ear piece" cell phone decides to hit me going nearly the speed limit in stopped traffic.

The poor guy in the car in front of me was just trying to get home, like me.

Why can't people control their automobiles?

I'm OK, I walked away (though my back and neck are really strating to tighten up) and nobody had to take an ambulance anywhere but, I'm a bit bitter about the whole thing. Her 02 TBird may have just killed my favorite-est car in the whole world, and I didn't even get to 30 roll her.

I just want my baby back. If I have a need for medical attention then I will seek some but, I'm not looking to make anything out of this more than where I was when I started.

I just want ride back, pristine, like when I turned the key this morning.

I'm a bit sick about it, frankly. I know it's just stuff, a car, and I could have been really injured and I wasn't (possibly a sprained wrist and some muscle pain) but, I can't understand how people can drive without knowing there is a stopped car in front of them.

Oh, the icing?

I get to drive a base model Cobalt for 3-4 weeks while the body shop makes a determination as to whether to fix her or total her.

I mean the thing has windows that physically "roll" down

Total it.. why would you want a fixed car.. It was 5 weeks old. I would have them get you a new car. there are plenty on E-bay. Glad you are OK..

A repaired car will just never be the same! It sounds pretty serious. Personally I wouldn't want it back. They can cut you a check and you can replace it. Your just lucky to be OK!

Whenever I sit in traffic I often watch my rear view. I once got smacked hard at a Toll booth!!! Stopped to pay and the Dude behind me never stopped. Came up fast and Wham! Scary Chit

yeah, but, I can't tell them I don't want it. Apparently the bank will still want a check if the insurance company says it's good to go.

If it were up to me I would ask them for my car to be replaced, un-wrecked, in red.

It's really sad what happened to you, hope that you get what you want out of it. Like a brand new car to replace your wrecked one via insurance company.

It doesn't take much on the 350Z to total the cars. I am sure it's totaled. You were only two numbers from mine.

I hate to say this, but hopefully the insurance company will total it.
It sounds like there is too much damage to keep her. You can go
and buy another new Nismo...I know there's still some out there.
Good luck with this whole situation, and dayumn, a Cobalt/Cavalier????
Where did you buy the Nismo? Get a good deal?

^ I know exactly what you mean. Your best bet is to try to get a brand new car. A similiar situation happend to my father when someone T boned his S2000 with less thank 1K miles on it. The car was considered totaled, but after a lot of phone calls to the insurance agencies he got a full refund for the amount he paid, plus his sales tax. The only thing he got stiffed on was the $600 for the 3M Clear Bra.

Hope everything works out for you I know how frusterating that can be. I'm convinced people just can't drive anymore.
