Default How Much is Too Much?

Just curious how long you can push your car before it starts loosing some performance.

In the last Auto X I ran I had about 20 or so runs around a mile course. I was averaging like 5 mpg I was pretty much in 2nd most of the time except for the starts since it was such a tight course and running around 5000 rpm or above most of the time. We ran the cars from 11 AM to 4 PM and just rotated through.

When I got home to wash my car I had noticed that my exaust tips were covered in black debris. Im not sure if this was from stuff comming out of the exaust and getting stuck or from the exaust being so hot and pieces of the tarmac getting stuck to it.

My real question is, will running the car like this noticably effect performace afterwards. I get my oil changed on a regular basis and such, but after seeing my exaust literally turn from crome to black I was wondering what it does to the internals of the car.

Anyone have any imput on this. I bought the car to drive it hard, but I would also like to keep the engine in relativly good condition.

Thanks

Of course the longetivity of the car isnt going to be what a babied by a 70 yr old gramma would get. I think your fine if you keep up on your maintinence. Id worry more about tire wear and brakes. Maybe upgrade your cooling system if you do this often. Congrats on driving the car like it should be driven tho Sounds like fun.

There is a different between pushing a performance car hard and abuse. You decide.

^ I agree with you, but the point is I really do not know anything about the internals of a car. I know some of you have literally taken engine components appart or are mechanics.

I was wondering if after pushing a car like this if you see any of that black build up that was on the exausts is also in the internals.

And if you loose HP and TQ running a car hard like that. This may be a dumb question, I really just dont know.

I do know that if you took a car put into production today and 10 years from now dynoed it, its numbers would be significantly less than when it was new. What causes this?

Thanks

My guess as far as the "black stuff" is because of unburned fuel. Overly rich. Auto-x is definitely not the picture of efficiency as noted in your 5mpg comment.

It you look at the number one case of engine failures its heat. Heat kills engines!

^ Well thats one thing that the 350Z (or at least the 07) is good at is heat management. The temp needle didn't even flinch from the middle.

it was also about 2 degrees out that day
