Default Satin/Matte/Gloss Black?

Hey guys, i'm finalizing a paint scheme and qoute with a shop to repaint the lower lip kit of our nismo v3's. Problem is I can't seem to make up my mind about which shade of black to go with. I've seen kingbaby's which resembles a satin black type which would look good but i'm worried it won't match the other body components that i'd like to do. Pretty much, it has to match with the seibon CB hood, matte black time attacks, matte black headlight housings, MCR canards, and matte black emblems. It seems that matte black would be the choice to go with, but i'd like to keep a small shine going on since the body of the car is a brilliant silver color but maybe someone can shed pictures to help give me an idea. I've seen the RS concept and I think the gloss black looks crazy good, but with the small mix of matte black items and rims, would it conflict too much? thanks guys

I'm in the same boat kinda. I think I am going to do a satin black on the bottom parts and sides skirts. I don't like that OEM grey trim.

Edit: and body shop said if you go with matte/flat black it will wear off after so many car washes.

Since I have satig which I confirm it is a satin hue and not flat black. I would say do satin. Reasons why is that flat black doesn't/can't have a clear to it or that good of a clearcoat. Seeing your making a show/go car I'd go saying and have the shop do a couple coats of clear over it. Still wouldn't make it glossy, and still giving you the race look with out that extra shine of gloss black. Don't finalize anything yet bro. Wait till your on island and ca. Have samples see my car and andrew's V2 front he did gloss and you can make your decision from there...

Oh by the way I showed all real Z enthusiast your idea we can't wait...

P.S. That was like two people I showed

I think a satin finish would be nice, the finish will still tie into the theme you have and it'll look nice on it's own as well. Since the lip kit doesn't directly touch any of the other items you're mentioning, I dont think you will really be able to tell at all.

Matte finishes always look weird to me anyways especially on body panels, it looks like some hick took to his car with a rattle can in the front lawn.

Man this sounds like my car! I'll finally have my MCR Canards installed. It will be nice to revive that thread...

My car will be going into the paint shop in May and I have been contemplating painting the gunmetal side skirts. I think gloss black would be to much IMHO. Flat black wouldn't pop like the k11 gunmetal. The gunmetal has metallic or flake mixed in with it. So that leaves satin black. If I did the gloss black I was considering asking the shop about adding a faint red metal flake to it.

It's all a matter of preference. You could try a gloss black with a silver metallic flake in it. Good luck

Zim

If u do satin there is a clear coat.. a company called Glasruit makes a satin clear coat u can shoot over any color... It protects like most clears...
A better flat is Dupont Imron paint... Its used in the boating n trucking industry but I've seen a car done in flat black n it looks great.. Prolly the nest flat going... I did my car in Glasruit clear but I'm considering using the Dupont this time and IMO I'd say u should too if u go the flat route...

Good luck....

Well the shop thats doing the build and paintwork does use the dupoint paint material, i was thinking of doing satin matte just because the flat just doesn't "pop" the eye i'd like to, but again i do appreciate the comments given and the new info for me to discuss with the shop thats doin the work.

@lakeside: Dang, i was hoping to beat you on this, but can't wait to see ur nismo with the canards, kinda wish i bought a red Z but they only had black and silver. Ur route sounds pretty cool but my finances took a nosedive with allocating funds for the GTM TT kit and the MCR Canards.

But as far as doing a satin matte with a clearcoat, that means i'd have to use a different clear than the clear thats on the body of the car?

@kingbaby: lol, yea, i tried to keep at least that much secret, but i haven't FULLY disclose the rest of the "exterior" mods that will be done. All i can say is i should've stuck with NA, sooooo much cheaper....

I don't know if I will get the skirts painted. I hear you on finances. Replacing a rim wasn't in my plans. I seriously hope to have the Canards installed in May. My fear is, the body shop i am going to won't want to fill the marker areas. I am going there to fix some paint chips and a scratch. I will bring them the car this week maybe. My schedule is pretty booked this week.

have you considered getting it wrapped in satin/gloss black? Cheaper than paint and if you track the car it be cheaper getting it rewrapped than repainted every couple months.

I never considered it, but the more I think about it I don't think they would be able to. The V3 front bumper has a lot of lines & curves to it. The rear bumper has the mesh.

Wraps are great for protection! wink/wink But in this case, nothing beats a wet coat. lol
