Default Thoughts/Advice

Haven't been out here in a while since I work like crazy. Here's my situation, I'm thinking about putting my Nismo up for sale...it is NOT for sale at this time, but I'm looking to sale around Feb 2012 (I have reasons).

When I bought the car I got rid of what I thought were deficient stock parts. Some would say "that's stupid, for resale purposes", but most would probably agree that my changes were driver improvements.

At any rate, it is what it is. So here's my dilemma. I've seen what most Nismos are going for, and I believe they're reasonable prices. With the following changes do you believe I'll be forced to shoot lower than average asking prices? I'm not posting a price because this isn't the right forum or time, but I don't really have a group of friends who have a clue so I'm left with myself and that's not getting me far.

Here are my upgrades:
- Cusco Zero 2 adjustable coilovers
- clear bra on so many areas it's stupid to list
- Injen track exhaust
- 19x10 front/19x11 RE30 wheels (matte black)
- Birk metallic racing cats
- Pioneer double-din (CD, DVD, GPS, Bluetooth, IPod)
- Stillen intakes
- Forced to put Michelin run flats on rear after wearing out rear tires (camber out of adjustment)
- Stillen front arms (to keep front-end within factory)

The car is an 07, #526 with 37k miles and still smells new. It's been garaged the whole time and has seen precipitation maybe 6 times. Purchased in AZ, never tracked.

I realize some here might comment that I sell it for $1.00 or something motivated out of self interest, but I'm hoping I'll get some realistic insight before I take the leap.

Please, NO OFFERS here, just thoughts about my question.

Thanks

I would not sell it for any less then average personally. They are tasteful mods and do improve upon the car's performance. If ride height is an issue, the buyer can adjust the coilovers and raise the car. HFC's are great!

Your wheel selection is top notch!

The clear bra is a selling point. As is the Pioneer.

You should get a rear camber & toe kit. That maybe an issue mechanically with the sale of the car.

You can include whatever stock parts you have with the car. You must have some left?

Thanks for your comments, very generous. Sadly I only kept the stock stereo (in case I sold that separately) and the original low-mile cats in case someone from Cali purchased it. I'm in the military and so moving around with extra wheels was a bit of a pain...plus I have another vehicle to deal with, so keeping extra parts took up room in the garage.

yea for sure dude.. in fact with that set u0p, you can stop ppl from haggling you easier actually. You wont GET anymore for it because banks dont give a rats @ss about upgraded parts.. value is whats on the book. But again, you can at least not get lowballed as much as everyone else usually does due to the parts.

20 if the car itself booked retail for 22k.. ppl will step to you all day long at 17, 18 etc etc...

with those parts you should be able to get teh 22 or at least 20... im totaly making numbers up.. but you get the jist.

JIST: word of the day... i think its been in like 5 of my posts haha.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from. I won't trade it. Stealerships will try to rip me on it. I'm only interested in letting it go on a private sale so I can get a used GT-R late next year...otherwise there's really nothing else I want as most cars are way over rated/priced. After Toyota stopped making the Supra, Nissan is really the only route to take...HP for $.

I had it looked at once just to see what dealerships would say...I had one guy try to quote me $14k. I recall saying a few words that weren't so nice and then walking out. At the time I wasn't interested in selling/trading, but curious.

test drive the GTR first...
after driving Porsches.. man.. car and driver is right.. the numbers dont lie.. GTR gets it.. but dude.. compared to the driving fun.. not even as fun as the 350Z.. POrsche hands down smokes em all.
Hate to say it.. i used to hate porsches.. so boring looking for 100k plus etc.. but dude.. whoa. SOLID cars.
buy used cheap too.
I hear GTR is anesthetizing to drive.. BUT, fawk it.. its still a nice car either way.

Good luck man.

I've heard a lot of comments about the GT-R being boring unless you're on a track. Something along the lines of lacking "drama" (sound, feel, etc.). I've also read posts of guys selling off their GT-R and going back to the Z.

Porsches are solid, but I don't know man...I guess only a test drive will provide the proof. With Japanese cars you can pull a lot more HP for a lot less.

Heard that..all I can say is that passenger seat time in my boys 07 911 took corners at unreal rates of speed and was the strangest feeling of being on rails I've ever felt.. nothing else like it. Rear engine vs mid vs front..truly incredible. Even at only 335 hp.

Give it a go. ttyl..

Cool, appreciate the input. Honestly would have bet on getting a lot more negative replies as far as resale. Thanx.

Just use craigslist and see what being sold and for how much...

Match accordingly!

My best friend is a 911 nut. He's owned a few and keeps trying to get me to turn away from the JDM scene. He owned a 90-something model last and it seemed a bit on the heavy side. I've seen a few tricked out, but damn the amount of coin involved to bring even close to some of the rides on this site would be beyond my comfort zone.

I'll look at my options, but when you see Top Gear and hearing them go on about the GT-R, plus asking price on a 2009 is in the high 50s low 60s...there's a lot of value wrapped up at a decent price point.

I'm still about 10 mos out from seriously looking at my next purchase, but if I go the 911 route it'll have to be a Turbo, I'm thinking 2007 with AWD.

Don't spit on me if I end up back on this site with another Japanese car though.

I hear you, I think a lot of folks have been a little concerned because the prices seem to be all over the place with varying mileage. I've seen Nismos go for the same price with a 10k difference in mileage. Confusing. You really don't see that with most rides.

My biggest concern was that maybe I screwed myself since I keep seeing an emphasis on "still has stock this or that", but it looks like I shouldn't worry.

Great car tastefull mods, i would look up KBB for private party sale in the proper condition and sell it for that. IMO , you should get slightly more than the average Nismo is selling for.

I've driven several GTR'S,including a black edition. For the bucks, really cannot be beat. But I agree with you on the Porsche. Not only the car ,but the engineering and the configuration(rear engine) and how it all works. Most guys have never driven a Porsche or,a mid-engined car.I have several cars in my "garage".One in comparison to what you are saying is my 1970 Lotus Europa.Stock weight is 1,350 lbs!..had about 90 hp.Unbelievable handling.
I replaced the stock Renault engine for a Lotus/Cosworth Twin Cam...Webers,
headers. Now pushing about 170hp.Added a few hundred lbs but,the power to weight ratio and the way the car handles is very similar to the Porsche formula. Its not a car to drive for someone that is unexperienced in understeer. They would wrap it around a tree.
Top Gear recently ran a piece on the Porsche Carrera GT.600hp..mid engine.
Unbelievable!

I would honestly shoot for 23-26k...That car is worth it and people will pay it.

^This
your car is above average and a reasonable asking price above is well justified, just have to market as you have said where you upgraded mediocre parts and protected the rest.
When you do go to sell you are going to get douches that are going to try to beat you down about it not being stock and thus being worth less...just laugh, get in your car while you tell them "go buy a stock one then" and drive off in your dope ride (even if they met you at your house).
they'll probably call you back before you make it two blocks away.

If you still have some months before you sell try and source oem parts and sell aftermarket. Most people won't pay the same price for something they feel has been altered or "abused". I mean on the other side of things would you buy a "modified" car with out question from a stranger? I'd say invest the time in searching for at least oem wheels and suspension. Sell off the after market, pocket a few extra bucks and make it easier on you when the time comes to sell the nismo.

Everyone wants something for nothing these days! I find it upsetting. Even if you list something at below market value, idiots will come and use the classic line "I have $$$ cash on me right now" Wave it around to tease you...! I hate that SH*T!

Today, everything is "CASH PRICE" This is the price, if you want it, it's yours if not, get off my property and stop wasting my TIME!... You knew what the price was, if you don't like it, you should of saved yourself the time.

A friend of mine was telling me he bought a triple set of Weber carbs for a Z that were mint. Easily $1000-1500..... The guy told him he would take $850 for them. Nice deal!.... What did he do, he pulled the "well I only have $600 cash on me" line... I was SO PISSED at him! I went up and down him about it. No respect for sellers these days!

If I was in a pinch, I would list my car for 30K right now. I have premium mods, the car is in new condition with 13kmi. Someone who wants it, may just buy it.

Lesson is, list it for what you feel is fair market value. If it doesn't sell within 1-2 months. You can always lower the price.

GLWS OP!...

24-26k.

20k for a nismo is already cheap. You have some worthwhile mods and the car has low miles as well.
