2003 Nismo?
Searched through the first 15 pages and couldn't find a thread pertaining my question so I decided to post one. So to my question… Did Nissan make a 2003 Nismo 350z? I've searched on the internet and only saw pictures and the 350z Wiki says that Nismo started producing Nismo's in 2004 so hopefully one of you guys can help me out. Thanks!
I don't believe the 350Z Nismo's were produced until 2007. Having said that, from 2003 to 2006, a lot of dealers put Nismo wheels, exhaust and suspension on the 350Z and advertised them as Nismo editions.
I was always under the impression that the 2004 nismos where either made of unobtanium or was special order, sign this it's for track only.then the 2005s weren't sold in America or only like 50 were sent for dealership display.... But I could be talking out my but on that.
Then they made a bunch of the 2007-2008s. Like 10% of the z's built during that time or something like that

^per much.
if you see a nismo it better be a 07-08.
if its anything else they made it look like it....or somehow they managed to get something they shouldnt.

i did some searching and it seems that a few dealers could make track pack r tunes. or s tunes, with less parts. but you special ordered it and they put the parts on...or something like that. and you could pick and choose. but the 3 places i looked could just be full of poop.

I can't speak with complete knowledge on this subject, but there were many versions of the Z sold in other countries, and at the same time not available here in the US. I can recall seeing pics of earlier (non-HR) Z's, painted silver with those blue and red Nismo stripes, different wheels, Brembo's etc., and one of more may have been called a "Nismo".
2007 is the first year of Nissan offering a factory Nismo model sold by Nissan. Previous to that, Nismo models (S-tune and R-tune, etc) were available to purchase through a Nismo dealership OR to buy a standard car from a Nissan dealership and take it to Nismo for modification. In the U.S., you could purchase Nismo s-tune and r-tune parts and have them installed either before or after delivery. The majority of the engine enhancements (sports-resetting, s1, s2, etc) were not offered over here.
Nismo of Japan also released some other models that were never available here. The 380rs and the s-tune GT being the most well known. The s-tune GT was based off the very limited Type E model (the long-nose version built so they could qualify the big body kit on the GT 500 cars).
Previous to my 07 Nismo, I had an 05 with the s-tune kit ordered from and installed by the dealer before I took delivery (except for the wheels). I would still consider these Nismo cars, just not the specific kind that this section is about as they weren't sold by Nissan. Even the ones from Japan are just the standard car with options added by Nismo. They just had more engine tuning options available from the Nismo shops than we did from the Nissan dealers.

There was a 03+ USDM Nismo v1 kit, an added option IIRC, that was sold in the US. It was not promoted as a "Nismo" model but some of the OG members will remember dealers selling them as "Nismo package." It consisted of a Nismo front lip, more pronounced side skirts, wing, wheels, and rear add-ons possibly a few other pieces. Some came with Nismo decals and/or emblems.

The confusion is caused by Nissan's inconsistent marketing of NISMO. The V1 and V2 parts were factory aftermarket and some dealers sold entire cars as "official" NISMO Zs. Hell, even some of the sales reps may have actually believed it...

This was my '05 USDM s-tune. USDM V1 aero kit, Nismo s-tune exhaust, springs/struts, sways, and graphics. All parts installed by the dealer prior to deliver (this kicked up the warranty on parts from 1 year/12,000 miles to 3 years/36,000 miles). The only reason I didn't order the LMGT4s with the car was because I bought these for my '04 base model a few months earlier and decided to use them on the new car. The base car was an enthusiast model.
I really wish the factory Nismo models would've come in Ultra Yellow. I loved that color so much.
My vin has my Z come up as a touring but the touring description doesn’t match mine. I got a nismo exhaust, rays wheels, Brembo brakes, the vsld diff lock, a rear windshield wiper delete, sway bars, w cloth seats and no navigation.
I got a nismo s-tune badge on the passenger side of my Z. Bought the car w all these upgrades and they seem to be all factory upgrades.
Now everyone says they didn’t make nismo’s until 2007, but these are clearly factory upgrades. These upgrades come from the track edition 03 but mine comes up as a touring when I run the vin. Later on they replaced the track edition Zs with the nismo’s. So therefore.. 2003 Nismo edition 350z

In Japan, there was a true S-Tune, Nismo built model. RHD, Japan Market only.
In the U.S., A Nismo S-Tune kit - in various stages - could be dealer installed and sold as "factory" with full accessory warranty. The various "stages" were for aero, exhaust, suspension. I would suspect that yours is equipped as such on a Touring model.
But it is mysterious with the Brembos (although Brembos ARE part of the true S-Tune package contents) and other non-Touring cues.... hmmmm.... maybe its the less well known 350Z Unicorn Edition. Does sound like pretty much the full S-Tune accessory setup. Good stuff.

Great marketing.
I think I remember reading a test report about them and the net result was that users felt it did all the above while dyno tests showed miniscule improvements - sometimes - in power/TQ.
The first result (users) was described as "Placebo effect", the second or more empirical in nature dyno test was deemed "standard deviation" on the dyno attributable to environmental factors.
So, bottom line: QUESTIONABLE (but plausible) benefits. The good news, it really won't hurt anything as it's just a set of capacitors built into a colorful box and not something people should rush out to buy (or, in your case, yank it out before the next time you start the car.)
