As factory track models go, the 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z is not the most hard-core beast ever built on a production line.

I like the 911 more.
It's not a confidence issue. The Cayman is faster. Porsche back in development had to lower the hp and regear the Cayman to make it overall slower than the 911. Since the preproduction models were faster by a long shot. So it's not surprising to see equal times.

+1

The Cayman S was supposedly the best handling car Porsche made. They had to tune it down so it wouldn't surpass their flagship car, the 911.

I have to agree, I really think we are now fallen behind. Sure the car has some HP but not torque. The cars are getting there *** kicked in SCCA and NASA. I love my 03, but I just see every company passing us by. I have done alot of reading on the cayman S and looks to be a good choice. Fairly reasonable if you find one a few years old. Just my 2 cents

If only you knew the half. Check my location first, then ask me how I know. It's not hard to go to Nissan Corp and find some answers.

Just because you live in Japan gives you the inside scoop on what configuration Nissan is going to use next? Makes no sense whatsoever to have a D.I. V8 and then have a base TT VHR. Where are you getting your info from? Your brothers mothers fathers cousin who's friend works at Nissan?

V8 380/400 hp N/A would be way better for an eventually track oriented car...
V6, snails, cheap and reliability ain't usually survive in the same car or statement.

I am extremely disappointed as well. Since the moment the Nismo 370Z came out I thought about trading my 08 350 for it, but now I see no reason to. Let's be really nice and say Nissan's brake upgrade is worth 3 seconds and the Nismo laps as fast as the Camaro SS. The Nismo still costs a lot more than the Camaro and is a lot less civil suspension wise. To make matters worse the 260 hp Cobalt SS is only a half a second behind and its FWD.

I think it would be interesting to see if any of the my350z members have VIR lap times for modified 350Z's and see where they fall.

I would probably run 4.0 minutes in the Corvette ZR1 so I am not worried about it.

Its unfortunate but since they've lost the turbos they haven't been the threat in the American racing scene they were expected to be. I don't see Nissan changing it because they have such a long lkist of loyal followers. I would love to see a high revving V8 4.3 liter car, but it is already a problem getting the bean counters to ok a Direct Injected better BALANCED VQ. I'd be estatic if they could create a motor that's caught up with the competetion and made 100 horse per liter NA (or at least close). And I still think Nissan is fibbing the flywheel figures on the Nismo.
