i did a 12.62 when i pulled a 1.7 60ft. at the time i had an intake, pulley, cheater slicks, test pipes and a straight 125 shot. no management or controllers for the nitrous kit other then opener, heater and purge. i do drive an automatic also.

i've since upgraded my torque converter and will be running a 100 shot within the next few weeks. im hoping to get sub 12.5's with a 100 shot where hopefully ill be satisfied. if not, ill be uprgading to a stage 2 nitrous kit.

my setup with the stage 1 kit, dual purge, remote bottle opener, heater and few extra hoses ran me just under $1400. installed it all myself so i saved a couple bucks.

hmmm are you in a G and do you have a system?? that time is not that great for what you had done, especially with that 60 foot. you should be running much faster. there must be some other problem. maybe that was too big of a shot for the stock timing and the engine was retarding the timing cause of some knock.

i had a G35 sedan that i could never get to run right at the track on a 100 shot. i would have ran 12.2 to 12.4 easily and was trapping right over 110. it was an auto also.

sounds like you know what you are doing so send me some more info on your car. Jet sizes?? where you have the nozzle?? bottle pressure you are racing at?? thanks man!!

12.62 doesnt seem all that bad. if u have ur slip let us know the whole run down on the slip, 1/8th-1/4-and trap speed. something must not be all that right in ur setup, because a 125 shot should net u some better times, especially with those mods.

you have an auto 350z judging by ur picture, right?

yes, its an auto z. power lost due to the tranny transferring power from the crank to the wheels is somewhere in the 23-28% with the auto z. i think thats what kills the car at higher speeds. its not efficient at all. upgrading my tc should help a bit. i dont have a system.

i should also point out that i do not spray threw every gear. i have my system setup to where it shuts off while im shifting and turns back on as soon as the car has shifted by use of a pressure switch mounted right on the shifter. almost like what would happen in manual tranny car only with a slightly longer delay. a 125 shot knocked 1.4 seconds off of my best n/a 1/4 mile time. thats more then what i expected to get out of it. now i just want that same 1.4 only to have it come from a 100 shot instead.

im using the nx stage 1 efi wet kit with the shark nozzle mounted on the intake about 2 inches away from the throttle body. with the nx kit, bottle pressures are regulated between 950-1050psi so im always within that window when i spray.

i was tempted to get the utec, but its too pricey. besides, im so close to where i want to be, that is really not worth getting it at this point. ill go as far as a stage 2 kit, but thats about it. your 11.83 looks so nice though.

i think the jets where 63/34 for the 125 shot, but im not sure. ill have to double check tomorrow.

timeslip:
temp: 77 degrees
front pressure (stock 17's):40psi
rear pressure (26x10.5): 10psi
60ft: 1.708
1/8 mile: 8.100
1/8 mile mph: 86.04
1000ft: 10.543
1/4 mile: 12.621
1/4 mile mph: 108.46

yeah fourth gear in the autos sucks, it is way way too long. are you hitting the nitrous right outta the hole??

everything seems good. probably running a bit rich with that fuel but thats ok. but that is a 125 shot. i ran 12.3 @110 with just a hundred shot. i am wondering if the stock ecu is retarding the timing, when you hit the nitrous did it ever barely feel like it was surging back and forth for a second...??

oh yeah, i would also run more air in those tires. just do a better burnout. you seem to be hooking good but 10 psi is not that much air for your power. that might have hurt your top end. also do you have a injen cold air??

I dont think you need 10psi in slicks for traction-16psi does it for me not heating them up that much. That could be hurting your trap Sunset...

yeah my 1.63 was with 15.5 psi in them and just a nasty burnout

i dont hit it right out of the hole because im still having traction issues with any shot over 50. i usually engage the system about 2500rpms before redline. this is why i want to upgrade to a stage 2 kit.

i've played around with tire pressures. i usually get my best 60ft times when im between 10-13psi. but handling is so bad @10psi. the back end is dying to slide out because of the huge side wall from 1st-3rd gear.

im going to the track may 20th. cant wait.

edit: i think another thing that i can better is warming up my tires. i dont seem to get a good warm up by just burning in 1st gear. ill have to shift into 2nd next time and see what it does to my traction and 60ft.

ill tell you your problem right now, you need to put your brake fuse on a switch and sit there and do a burnout for about 8 seconds. hands down that is it.

i get sooooo much traction its crazy off of 15 psi. anything lower than 12 is dangerous with your setup and i am suprised you arent swaying back and forth at the end of the track.

if you heat your tires up more and launch outta the hole you will take 4 tenths off your time for sure. i promise ya!! a hundred shot has 170 ft pounds of tq, why waste it??

make sure you spin the tires about 3 full times in the water, pull up about 5-10 feet, flip the switch that is for your brake fuse. then hold down the brake and floor your car. hold the brake is light as you can without rolling and then heat them till the smoke for a few seconds, try running 15-16 psi when you do this cause they WILL hook. hit nitrous as soon as you hit WOT outta the hole!!!

oh yeah hold on too!!

EDIT- after rereading you post, i would leave it in drive and hopefully it will shift to second on your burnout, make sure the tires are nice and wet to start and good luck man!!!!

Thumbs up Nitrous + Vortech

I'm keeping my ZEX for use with my Vortech for the reasons that HoldThis mentioned & that's to speed up the spool time on the Vortech ( plus add some low end power that the Vortech lacks! ). I have probably $3k in my system but that includes a NX Maximizer; J&S Safeguard plus all the other goodies ( remote opener, heater, etc )
There's only 1 speed shop in my town that sells nitrous & they charge $5/lb as well!! Gonna go to the local welding shop & rent a "mother" bottle & keep it at my shop so it works out to about $2.00/lb that way.
Back to the original thread - I eventually ended up with 150 hp shot on the stock internals for almost a year & the only downside was buying new rear tires!!

Hey Guys,

I was also considering getting into nitrous injection with my Z. I am just concerned that I may need a tuning solution before I put it in. And I really don't want to have to go through that since I only have a few bolt ons. Would it be safe to run a wet kit (NOS) with one step colder plugs (Iridium), activated by 100% throttle? I only want to spray a 50 shot since I will probably end up spraying often (I have very little self-control ). Also, are there any books on nitrous injection you guys found helpful?

Best Regards,

Reav

go onto the nitrous websites and read all you can. NX NOS ZEX all of them...

yes a 50 shot would be a step in the right direction...

there is not much tuning that you can do with nitrous systems aside from retard timing. but that should not even be needed with any shot 125 or less. but what you do need to do is atleast get it dynoed to check for your a/f ratio when spraying. this way if it is lean or rich you can adjust the jetting sizes accordingly.

if anything, go for a 75 shot. it wont hurt the engine if you have the right a/f ratio. a 50 shot is just not worth it IMO. it'll leave you wanting more. lol.

there are plenty of usefull threads on this site also. Just look for audiblemayhem's threads, or sunsets, there are plenty of threads where a lot was discussed and a lot to be learned.

lets see, look how many cars blow up on nitrous , then look and see how many blow up turbocharged, bro you rarely see 350z blow up with nitrous , I sprayed the **** out of my car and still runs like a champ, 100 shot all day, no problem. Dont let all these guys scare you. My opinion nitrous is much safer than turbo, run 125 shot and be done with it

My only big problem with nitrous is...someone rear ending you hard enough on the road to hit the tanks and then causing a massive explosion. Anyone else contemplate this? I might be over-reacting but just wanted to point out one of my big concerns.

it depends on where you mount it. some people put the bottle in the compartment behind the passenger seat. some put it inbetween the space where the speakers and rear sway is. and even though mine is mounted dead center in the rear, a car would hit the gas tank a good 6 inches before it hit the bottle.

nitrous is not flamable, but it is an accellerant. So if things are going to blow up and catch fire anyway, the bottle will just make sure it ends sooner, lol.

LOL...thanks for the words of comfort. Nah, I'm kidding. I'm actually wondering if the bottle fits in the glove compartment behind the passenger seat. I never put anything there anyway. I'm really considering a Zex kit. Sounds like a good kit.

actually, thats kinda a cool idea. I think a 5lb bottle may fit in their. You could gut it out and fit it in there, or twin 2.5 lb bottles would absolutly fit. I really like that idea.

Now what exactly is a window switch. I figure it's only for certain times that you want the NOS to engage but would you really need it with a WOT switch since it's already based on throttle response?
